Is the extreme left ever happy? After blowout victories across the country last night, one would imagine our "progressive" Internet friends might finally see a reason to tone down their constant rage and anger.

While that may have occurred in some leftist circles, it certainly isn't the case at the Soros-backed Media Matters, where the first post-election story is a gripe piece about how the mainstream media isn't sufficiently sucking up to Barack Hussein Obama.

Apparently, there haven't yet been enough network references to an Obama "mandate", so the OUTRAGE (!!!) machine remains in the ON position. Amazingly, these people see a pro-Bush media bias that supposedly isn't being applied to Obama.

Do they live on Venus?

Why not shut the place down for a few days and run a smiling image of their messiah on the website?

In 2008, will media recall 2004 declarations of Bush "mandate"?

Summary: President Bush was re-elected in 2004 with 286 electoral votes, the smallest popular-vote margin since 1976 (excluding the 2000 election) and the lowest electoral vote count for an incumbent president's re-election since 1916. Nevertheless, many in the media were quick to echo Vice President Dick Cheney's assertion that "the nation" gave Bush "a mandate." It remains to be seen whether the media will apply the same standard in assessing the results of the 2008 election.

In 2004, President Bush was re-elected with 286 electoral votes, defeating Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) by 3.3 million votes -- the smallest popular-vote margin since 1976 (excluding the 2000 election) and the lowest electoral vote count for an incumbent president's re-election since Woodrow Wilson drew 277 electoral votes in 1916. Nevertheless, many in the media were quick to echo Vice President Dick Cheney's assertion that "the nation" gave Bush "a mandate." It remains to be seen whether the media will apply the same standard in assessing whether the results of the 2008 election constitute "a mandate" for the projected winner.

After months of fawning and slobbering all over Obama, it's hard to imagine how any Democrat partisan could find fault with the mainstream media's coverage. After all, they've just placed this guy in office!


Beyond that, the other two Media Matters headlines this morning feature angry denunciations of Matt Drudge and talk host Bill Cunningham, primarily because they dared run headlines or speak out against our new Dear Leader ahead of the election.

Even in the face of victory, what drives this level of unhinged anger? Is it because they realize that with total control of our government, Democrats will now be playing defense?

Perhaps they also recognize that conservative talk radio has just become 100 times more important than it was yesterday. Just imagine the ratings surge! Now that could be irritating.

Now, with their enemies knocked out of power, the left will have only itself to blame when things go wrong (and there's little doubt they will). They certainly no longer have Bush to kick around.

Has Media Matters just lost its reason to exist?

FAIR's Peter Hart catches Bob Novak contradicting himself on how big a victory has to be to constitute a "mandate." Novak writes today that Obama's victory doesn't give him a "mandate" -- but Hart points out that in 2004, Novak said of Bush: "Of course it is [a mandate]. It's a 3.5 million vote margin."

Novak does deserve credit for one thing, though: In today's post, he made it all the way to the second sentence before making a truly absurd claim:

The first Democratic Electoral College landslide in decades did not result in a tight race for control of Congress.

I have no idea what the second half of that sentence is supposed to mean, but the first half is only true if by "decades," Novak means "12 years." Bill Clinton won 379 electoral votes in 1996 -- and 370 in 1992.
