Limbaugh's MSNBC Challenge: Can You Stop Talking About Me?

BREAKING AN ADDICTION

Ratings Desperation Fueling MSNBC's Rush Obsession

By now, you've heard it from the left a thousand times: Rush Limbaugh is a "pill-popper" hooked on Oxycontin. But while he successfully sought treatment for the addiction years ago, there's no sign his mainstream media foes are willing to deal with their own unhealthy obsession with the talk titan himself.

Take MSNBC, for instance: across its entire programming schedule, it's hard to find a host or anchor going an entire hour without at least mentioning El Rushbo. Much of the time, it's far more frequent than that, with the leftist NBC cable network appearing to use Limbaugh to build its ratings.

In fact, according to TVNewser, "Rush Limbaugh" was mentioned at least 12 times on MSNBC Tuesday alone.

Don't think Rush himself hasn't noticed: during yesterday's program, he issued a challenge to Olbermann & Company: can you stop talking about me for 30 days?

From the transcript
:

RUSH: I have a little challenge I would like to issue here. I would like to issue a challenge to our good friends over at the cable news network MSNBC. As you know, Michael Steele made a speech today outlining the future of the Republican Party. And apparently he mentioned every conservative's name in the book except mine and Cheney's. This has caused many excited media people to point this out. "Hey! Steele, he mentioned Burke, he mentioned Reagan, he mentioned Buckley, but he didn't mention Cheney and he didn't mention Limbaugh." Now, throughout the busy broadcast day, MSNBC cannot go an hour without mentioning me or playing video of me or having me discussed.

I have the nation's most listened to radio program and talk show. It is clear to me that MSNBC is hoping to build its ratings on my back. It seems that the liberalism that is MSNBC isn't selling as well as they would like because they cannot -- from the Scarborough show in the morning, all the way to night, they cannot; they cannot -- go any appreciable length of time without showing video of me, the CPAC speech or excerpts from this radio show or having a bunch of hack guests on to discuss me. So my challenge is this, to MSNBC. Let's see if you can run your little TV network for 30 days... Let's see if you can do Rush withdrawal.

Let's see if you can run your little TV network for 30 days without doing a single story on me, and then let's take a look at your ratings during those 30 days and see what happens. Because obviously MSNBC thinks they cannot get numbers without focusing on me. So I challenge you, MSNBC! Thirty days without anything mentioning me. No video of me, no guests commenting on me. See if you can do it.

You know, stand on your own two feet. Stand on liberalism. Stand on what you believe. Stop bleeding off me. I don't care about the ten extra listeners they might be bringing me. Ten extra listeners, I mean, that's irrelevant to me. They're not... I just want to see if they can survive on their own. I'm a self-reliant guy. I don't rely on them.

Unfortunately for MSNBC,
giving up Rush-bashing may represent a luxury it cannot afford. With ratings plunging to fresh lows, it needs to keep its tiny base fired up. The Obamist era has not been good to these guys, as the numbers demonstrate.

In particular, Chris Matthews has created cable's first No-Watch Zone, as average 25-54 viewership remains around 100,000. Newcomer Ed Schultz's dead-on-arrival effort has shown no survival prospects, while Keith Olbermann is usually lucky to generate half of rival Bill O'Reilly's ratings.

Election year wondergirl Rachel Maddow, pumped endlessly by the mainstream media during a period of Obama fever, is clearly seeking her own survival strategy as she begins to challenge the Dear Leader from the left. That may be why the liberal Huffington Post is suddenly running hit pieces on her struggling viewership.

But with that approach, she may emerge as the last MSNBC host standing as others continue to lose credibility. Overall, with their own people running Washington, they're quickly running out of targets. That's why you won't see them taking up Rush's challenge anytime soon.

  • Mentioning Rush is FUNNY. MSNBC's audience hates Rush, so why not give the audience what they want?? I only tune into MSNBC for Olberman making fun of Rush, Hannity and Fox news. Not for news, but EXACTLY for what Olberman does, mock conservative pundits. MSNBC is the only netowrk with the guts to mock the propaganda mill of the radical right wing. Good for them.

Fox gives their audience what they want, a steady stream of GOP propaganda, to feed the 3 million people left in America who still support the GOP...

So MSNBC is there for us, who hate conservative pundits, and love to laugh at them. The day Olberman stops making fun of Rush, Hannity, and Fixed News is the day I stop watching them. I don't watch TV for news, I READ newspapers, journals and political science journals. I tune into MSNBC for the comedic efforts of Olberman's mocking f the right wing goofballs, good comedic relief after a hard days work. Nothing like tuning into Olberman mocking wingnuts.....

Rush is obviously embarassed at the mocking.

After 30 years of right wingers mocking every American who is not "conservative" it is about time somebody mock them

What's the matter Brian, can't take a joke?

    Rush is a joke anyway

  • Incidentally, after Rush issued his challenge to MSNBC, they didn't manage to even finish the day without mentioning him. Talk about MSNBC being obsessive! Not to mention desperate.

  • MoPoop, you can't take a joke, criticism or the truth, so what are you blathering about?

MSNBC is the Obama Goebbels network and you are just another leftwing whackjob.

  • Great Post Brian! Years ago, while I was studying Radio Television and Film at Cal State Long Beach, I had a video instructor who worked with Keith Olbermann at KCBS 2 in Los Angeles. On the 11 PM News one night, they were supposed to get a satellite feed from Germany for a sports story. The link went down, and the Ogermann had a fit! When the story came up on air, he deliberately said "Let's go to Germany now" to spite the technical staff. Ogermann continues to become meaner as he stays on air. My video instructor worked as an associate directer of news back in the late 80s, and dealt with both Ogermann and Jim Lampley. Ogermann was the meanest person at KCBS 2...always bullying people around, including young interns.

By the way, I wonder how long Rachel Madcow is going to survive on air with her far left wing extremist views. She and Ogerboy aka "Mr. Swhine Flu" can take a hike!

  • In 1962, singer Chubby Checker had a huge hit called "Limbo Rock". The most famous line of the song was "How low, can you go?"

And now, almost 50 years later, Rush Limbaugh is rocking the hard-leftists at MSNBC by challenging them not to mention his name for a month. It's The Limbaugh Rock!!

You've just got to know what's happening here, don't you?

By tossing down this gauntlet, Limbaugh has virtually assured himself of intense (and intensely negative) MSNBC coverage for the next month. But the more Matthews and Schultz and olbermann and Maddow and Schuster attack him, the more he will play it up on his show and the higher his already-#1 ratings will go.

Look at what Matthews, olbermann, etc. have said in only the last two days and see how quickly it happened.

You may or may not like what Rush Limbaugh has to say. But don't doubt his promotional skills for even one second.

    It's The Limbaugh Rock!

(And what do I think of its beat? I think its got MSNBC beat. Like a drum.)

  • Ogermann is going to be vomiting from having the swhine flu, while that brainless harpy Rachel will be doing the Madcowrena to Rush.

MMSC, nothing shocks me about Blowbermann anymore. And the idea he works for a corporate fascist enabler in Jeff Immelt is even LESS shocking.

By the way, Lampley is a leftist as well.

Why didn't CBS fire Blowbermann after that blow-up? When I was in radio, I had a blow-up in the newsroom of WGCH with a co-worker, everyone heard it. Not only did it cost me a story to do, but the next day I WAS FIRED! And that was the last time I was ever in radio. Now that I know corporate fascists run everything not the independent operations, I have QUIT looking for jobs in radio. Sure I can blame Telecom 96 and both parties all I want. But there seems to be more than that and it has to do with the global bankers who run EVERYTHING in this country, even Blowebermann's multi-objects of desire, Obama, Matthews and Maddow (The Butch Lesbian's Wet Dream!)

  • Hard leftists on MSNBC??

are you on heroin? MSNBC is filled with Obama supporting liberals, not hard leftists..

When was Noam Chomsky on MSNBS? NEVER

you wingnuts are mentally sick if you think MSNBC i hard left, MSNBC supports all of Obama's bush-like policies, a LEFTIST network would attack them

Basically Obama is acting exactly like Bush, military tribunals, Guantanamo, defending torture, and right wingers ae complaining?

MSNBC defends Obama's Bush like tatics, and you mentally retarded ditto-hads call this "hard leftism"????

Jeez H f*c*in* Christ, you people are indeed mentally sick

and Rush is humiliated over the obama apologist's mocking of him. The bouncihng Rush is the funniest thing, in the history ogf television

rush is a vile, 3 times divorced junkie, pretending to have "conservative" values.

and "moonbat slayer". TRY ME. I'm aremed to the teeth, and will turn you conservative sissies into red mist, with my .44

  • Unfortunately, KCBS and Ogermann had a contract...signed sealed and delivered! Same with Lampley. And Lampley was banging his co-anchor, going through a divorce, and making wedding plans with his co-anchor. The marriage flopped after she had his kid...but that's another story.

The Oger has a contract with MSNBC, which protects his carcass. In the meantime, NBC fired KNBC weatherman Chirstopher Nance for having a Bible in his office; General Electric forces employees to embrace queers, and if they protest, GE fires them in a flash!

  • LIBS.44KILLSCONSDEASD:

HA HA! Be honest now: Obama supporting liberals are all hard far left wing extremists! We conserviatives don't support your dope dealers!

By the way, remember the tube end of the 44 is supposed to be pointed away from the target!

  • Your job as a future mother is to learn the god's ways and to help your child understand despite the negative reinforcement and conditioning of today's society. Without consciousous parents the child will have no hope, and may even exaserbate their disfavor by becoming corrupted in today's environment.
Your ultimate goal is to fix your relationship wiith the gods and move on. You don't want to be comfortable here, and the changes in Western society in the last 100 years has achieved just that.
1000 years with Jesus is the consolation prize. Don't be deceived into thinking that is the goal.

The gods tempt people for which they are most weak. Artificial Intelligence will create desire in people's minds for the following sins:::
    1. Alcohol
    2. Drugs
    3. Preditory "earning"
    4. Homosexuality
    5. Gambling
    6. Something for nothing/irresponsibility (xtianity)
    7. Polygamy/superiority over women/misogyny (Islam)
Much like the other prophets Mohhamed (polygamy/superiority over women/misogyny) and Jesus (forgiveness/savior), the gods use me for temptation as well. In today's modern society they feel people are most weak for popular culture/sensationalism, and the clues date back to WorldWarII and Unit731:TSUSHOGO.
It has been discussed that, similar to the Matrix concept, the gods will offer a REAL "Second Coming of Christ", while the "fake" Second Coming will come at the end and follow New Testiment scripture and their xtian positioning. I may be that real Second Coming.
What I teach is the god's true way. It is what is expected of people, and only those who follow this truth will be eligible to ascend into heaven as children in a future life. They offered this event because the masses have just enough time to work on and fix their relationship with the gods and ascend, to move and grow past Planet Earth, before the obligatory xtian "consolation prize" of "1000 years with Jesus on Earth" begins.

The Prince of Darkness, battling the gods over the souls of the Damned.
It is the gods who have created this environment and led people into Damnation with temptation. The god's positioning proves they work to prevent people's understanding.
How often is xtian dogma wrong? Expect it is about the Lucifer issue as well.
The fallen god, fighting for justice for the disfavored, banished to Earth as the fallen angel?
I believe much as the Noah's Flood event, the end of the world will be initiated by revelry among the people. Revelry will be positioned to be sanctioned by the gods and led for "1000 years with Jesus on Earth".
In light of modern developments this can entail many pleasures:::Medicine "cures" aging, the "manufacture" of incredible beauty via cloning as sex slaves, free (synthetic) cocaine, etc.
Somewhere during the 1000 years the party will start to "die off", literally. Only those who maintain chaste, pure lifestyles will survive the 1000 years. They will be the candidates used to (re)colonize (the next) Planet Earth, condemned to relive the misery experienced by the peasantry during Planet Earth's history.
If this concept of Lucifer is true another role of this individual may be to initiate disfavor and temptation among this new population, the proverbial "apple" of this Garden of Eden. A crucial element in the history of any planet, he begins the process of deterioration and decay that leads civilizations to where Planet Earth remains today.

Only children go to heaven. By the time you hit puberty it is too late. This is charecteristic of the gods:::Once you realize what you have lost it is too late.
Now you are faced with a lifetime to work to prepare for your next chance. Too many will waste this time, getting stoned, "Hiking!", working, etc.
