Now that we've seen the CBS suit against
Howard Stern settled out of court for peanuts, other than dueling, megabucks legal teams, who actually won this battle?
With today's news that new Stern employer Sirius Satellite Radio will pay CBS a whopping $2 million, it's hard to imagine how the hassles could have been worthwhile. That's a far cry from the $500 million initially demanded.
Call this Memorial Day box-office flop "Revenge Of The Bruised Management Egos". Wouldn't the legal fees alone add up to more than $2m? For these network suits, that's golf money.
And no doubt Stern thanks CBS for all of the added free publicity.
Speaking of satellite radio, is the sky really falling on this fledgling business? After a barrage of bad news this week, it might look that way.

I tell you, I've been thinking about getting satellite radio, XM or Sirius. Not so sure if I will. While there are things those two can give you like commercial free music and various news/talk outlets, there's some things satellite can't do:
1) Give school closings in case of bad weather--although techno-types will get them from the web or even from TV.
2) Air local high school sports--like 1490 WGCH in Greenwich
3) Give local talk--unless you happen to be in a market that has no local outlet. By the way WGCH is the flagship of Business Talk Radio and Lifestyle Talk Radio--but their major strengths are a 3-hour local live newscast, high school sports and some local talk shows. Their weakness--they air Red Sox baseball--then again I say it as a Yankee fan--:P
There are REALLY local stations out there--just gotta look--like 1490 WBCB in Bucks County, PA--owned by Philly Eagles broadcaster Merrill Reese; 95.9 WATD-FM in Marshfield, MA--locally owned since 1977 by Ed Perry. Both stations have internet streams. I believe there are others out there--but like I said, you gotta look.

I see your point. Most cars, like from Chevy can offer XM in their cars with the option of switching back to terrestrial.
