KFI - Los Angeles Reaches First Place
In Southern California, conservative radio has reached a new ratings high: first place.
That would be KFI-AM we're talking about, home of Rush Limbaugh and morning host Bill Handel.
With an overall share of 4.9 revealed in the lastest monthly Arbitron trend report, KFI has rocketed into the number one position, surpassing Spanish language formats and FM music stations. As far as we can tell, it's the first time this has occurred in Los Angeles.
Because these figures represent the second phase of the all- important spring ratings period, to see if this holds, we'll have to wait until the full book is released next month.
Meanwhile, liberal Air America Radio affiliate KTLK turned in a flat 1.0 share and long- dormant KABC scored another 2.2 among all listeners 12 and older.
For any English- based radio format, overcoming the near- total dominance of Spanish radio in Southern California has always been extremely difficult.
According to Inside Radio, Handel's morning show played a major role in KFI's sudden upsurge. Moving from 5.6, to a 6.1 share month- to- month, the controversial conservative talker's now in first place in the LA market.
While there has been some minor tinkering by Arbitron over its ratings calculation formulas, the Radio Equalizer wonders if the massive publicity and controversy over Handel's Muslim jokes earlier this year has contributed to his increased popularity.
While Handel and KFI faced immense pressure from Islamic extremist group CAIR over the incident, the longtime morning host was ultimately able to hang on to his job.
If these numbers hold for another month, KFI, Rush and Handel will truly have new bragging rights.
ELSEWHERE: after nearly a year of intense bickering and outrageous demands, Randi Rhodes and Air America have apparently finally come to a contract renewal agreement. For exclusive details, check back with the Radio Equalizer, very soon.
Randi hopes you won't!

RWW, I wonder if they serve Kool-Aid at the home! HA!
Congrats to KFI for going to the top--that's sticking it to the Hollywood elite who call that area home!

"Rhodes American hero, patriot and Veteran"
Hey I served in the military during the Vietnam Era, and I wasn't even drafted - I signed up.
Can I claim this here "American hero, patriot, and Veteran" status?
Does that mean my opinion on military matters is just as valuable and important as Randy Rhodes?

Lokki, as for as I'm concerned you can. And for this lesbian Rhodes, SINCE WHEN DOES SHE KNOW ABOUT BEING A PATRIOT?! RWW, people like you are part of the enemy within since you like to rake Savage across the coals. So is anyone associated with AAR, NPR, Pacifica--especially Amy Goodman and ABCCBSNBCCNNMSNBC!
Get my drift, America HATER?! Stop drinking your damn Haterade!

Thank you Patriot World, but, while I am a veteran, and try to be a patriot, I was no hero.
I believe that word should be reserved for those who went above and beyond their duty. I can't claim that honor.
However, I have tremendous difficulty in allowing that title to be attached to Ms. Rhodes, either.

Rush, my hero! Why did you have to go all the way to the Dominican Republic to get a little? And I don't mean Viagra.
I'm sure there are plenty of latently gay right-wingers who would have volunteered to help you out.

Let's say I break into your house
Recently large demonstrations have taken place
across the country protesting the fact that Congress
is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.
Certain people are angry that
the US might protect its own
borders, might make it harder
to sneak into this country and,
once here, to stay indefinitely.
Let me see if I correctly understand
the thinking behind these protests.
Let's say I break into your house.
Let's say that when you discover
me in your house, you insist that I leave.
But I say, 'I've made all
the beds and washed the
dishes and did the laundry
and swept the floors. I've
done all the things you don't
like to do. I'm hardworking
and honest
(except for when I broke into your house) .
According to the protesters:
You are Required to let me stay in your house
You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan
You are Required to Educate my kids
You are Required to Provide other benefits to me & to my family
(my husband will do all of your yard work because
he is also hardworking and honest, except for that
breaking in part).
If you try to call the police or force me out,
I will call my friends who will picket your
house carrying signs that proclaim my
RIGHT to be there.
It's only fair, after all, because you have
a nicer house than I do, and I'm just
trying to better myself. I'm a hardworking
and honest, person, except for well,
you know, I did break into your house
And what a deal it is for me!!!
I live in your house, contributing only a
fraction of the cost of my keep, and
there is nothing you can do about it
without being accused of cold,
uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and
bigoted behavior.
Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you to learn
MY LANGUAGE!!! so you can
communicate with me.
Why can't people see how ridiculous
this is?! Only in America .
If not blow it off.........
along with your future Social Security
funds, and a lot of other things.
