MORE MALLOY FALLOUT

Chaos Continues, Flanders Set As Replacement

With a replacement now set for the recently- fired, left- wing extremist Mike Malloy, Air America Radio is forced to deal with continuing fallout over his mysterious removal from the airwaves.

According to an inside source, the hot- headed Malloy's abrupt termination from the liberal talk network has caused a serious internal rift, with some demanding that he be reinstated. But a sponsored program hosted by "progressive" activist Laura Flanders has already been placed in the timeslot and is ready to launch in the coming weeks.

One big problem: several affiliates are balking at the moves and may refuse to carry Flanders, which may keep her off of as many as a half- dozen of Air America's largest stations. Without them, it seems almost pointless to move forward with her new weeknight program.

At YouTube, there's a Save Malloy campaign underway, utilizing a series of video clips. Click below to view the most recent installment (creepy "progressive" alert: there's a great deal of bizarre anti- conservative hate here):

In the meantime, John at RightWingNews speculates that some of Malloy's particularly extreme rhetoric may have been the trigger for his sudden dismissal:

Air America's Mike Malloy: "You've Got Muslims In New Jersey. Why Not Go Kill Some?"

Here's (now fired) Air America host, Mike Malloy, filling in for Randi Rhodes on August 28, (about 3/4's of the way through the show):

Mike: Ray is calling from New Jersey. Welcome to the program. Thanks for holding on.

Ray: You were asking for a conservative or a Bush supporter to call so I just thought I'd call.

Mike: Well, thanks. Have a great day. What are you calling about?

Ray: Well, I support the president and I'm thankful there's a conservative in the white house during these times when terrorists want to kill us because we're not Muslim.

Mike: Wow. Is that why they hate us? Because we're not Muslims?

Ray: Well, those two guys, they had guns held to their, the two reporters, the cameramen? They had guns held to their heads. Were sworn to change their religion to be set free or they would have been killed. Is that what we're up against here?

Mike: I guess so. It's a terrible world. Thank god George Bush is in power to stop that sort of thing from happening. Right?

Ray: Don't you think we should get them before they get us?

Mike: Oh yeah, that makes sense. Let's go kill I'll tell you what. Where do you live? You live in New Jersey, Ray?

Ray: Yeah, I live in..

Mike: Are there any Muslims in New Jersey?

Ray: I'm sure that there are.

Mike: Okay, why don't you find some and kill them?

Ray: I'm in the northeast area in New Jersey.

Mike: Frankly I don't care where you live in New Jersey. I'm just saying, next time you see a Muslim why not blow, why not kill him?

Ray: ha. Why is the liberal thing

Mike: Ray, Ray, Ray, I have a question for you. Answer the question or Im gonna leap through the phone and rip your ears off. Here's the question, Ray. Why not go kill a Muslim? Don't leave it up to the soldiers, don't leave it up to the Middle East. You've got Muslims in New Jersey. Why not go kill some?

Ray: Cause some liberal attorney will lock me up.

Mike: No, no no, Ray, answer the question. Are you going to do one of these cowardly republican right-wing things on me. Let me ask you something, since you can't answer that question Shut up!

(and the conversation goes on for a few more seconds before Mike hangs up on him)

Sounds like a host worth fighting for! Rehire him at once!

  • Brian,

Thanks for the link to the video. It is a powerful statement that validates how crazy these people really are. I can see why even the left is opposed to his views. AAR made the correct decision.

I wonder if Malloy is just saying this sort of stuff for theatrics or if he actually believes it. It's frightening to realize there are people who actually believe what he said.

  • Benson, your lack of intelligence absolutely floors me. How can you make such an idiotic statement about things Mike Malloy said and how it is frightening to think that people believe what he had to say? Have you ever heard of Ann Coulter? She said that she wished Timothy McVeigh would have bombed the NYT building. Do you believe that? Do you think the people in that building deserve to die? What about her calling the 9/11 widows "harpies"? Do you believe that? What about the statement she made "We should bomb their countries, destroy their homes and convert them to Christianity"? Do you believe that?

I don't expect you to answer any of my questions. Take off your GOP-issued blinders and see what the world really looks like.

  • You clowns fear Mike Malloy's humor and antics. He is sarcastic, Benson and maloney sarcastic. He does nothing different than say Levin, Savage or Coulter, just on the other side. I know how you can't handle it.

As i like to say on my talk show
we do the show because the right wing does not own the concept of anger.

    Get it yet?

when you critice a single thing the hate mongers I lsited above, than maybe you can comment

and on Coulter, once on T.V she suggested EXECUTION FOR CLINTON over oral sex!!1 Do you take that seriously, are you ok with it?

  • If you guys like him so much, shouldn't you be yelling at the people who fired him?

By Blogger Jim, at 06 September, 2006 18:05

  • He IS worth fighting for.

I'm proud to be fighting for him.

By Blogger hashfanatic, at 06 September, 2006 18:56

  • To me, Malloy is just the mirror image of Ann Coulter, only fighting for the other team.

And as such, he is probably best taken in small, piquant doses of sarcastic "wit" rather than a steady stream of bile over the course of a three-hour show. Note that Coulter is almost always a guest, rarely a host, when she is on the radio. I have to doubt that people want to listen to industrially PO'ed for three hours straight in the evenings five times a week. That more than anything got Mark Williams off of the air in Sacramento earlier this year.

Still, if (as it is alleged) Malloy is one of AAR's ratings leaders, then it is typical of AAR mismanagement to deuce him. Following that 'logic', do not be surprised if they find a "reason" to axe Randi Rhodes as well.

I have to wonder if AAR is trying a "kinder gentler" kind of radio progressivism, because that is the only logical explanation for canning Malloy.

  • As opposed to an opiate addict going through a manic episode?

  • Have I told you yet today how much I miss that show?

Thanks for the video, just great stuff. Malloy is brilliant.

  • Owen sez: "That guy looks like a washed up porn star going through a mid-life crisis"

Sounds like you've got some experience in such matters. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

By Blogger WHT, at 06 September, 2006 23:23

  • As opposed to an opiate addict going through a manic episode?

Now y'all should know better than that.

All stuff like that does is give The Strawman license to come on here and complain about how people are being "ad-hominem" toward him.

  • Malloy guesting on Seder's Air America Radio program after being fired.

That basically tells you the difference between the old-school "crap in yer pants" right-wing radio host and the daring progressive voices on the left side of the dial. Brilliant move Sam.

By Blogger WHT, at 08 September, 2006 21:37

  • The difference is that the right-wing radio losers are loyalists, whereas Seder, Rhodes, and Malloy are patriots.

That's why the Malloy issue (whether he chooses to return, or accepts another offer from another outfit) is THE defining moment for Air America.

Will they clean up their management, and throw the moneychangers out of the temple, or will they take the money and give the listeners "Liberal Lite", or, more succintly, "Lieberal" talk radio, and fall into that abyss?

Sadly, the neocons never gave old-school and paleoconservative voices such a choice.
