US Rep Peter DeFazio (D- Oregon), Lars Larson Show

BLEEPING BLEEP!

During National Interview, Congressman Uses F-Word

It's no secret that radio talk show hosts have "dump" buttons to remove offending language, as mandated by the FCC and Congress.

Yet those devices are generally in place to screen out rogue callers, not guests, especially when the individual in question happens to serve in the United States House of Representatives!

Sure enough, on Friday's Lars Larson Show, producers were in the odd position of bleeping a congressman.

US Rep Peter DeFazio (D- Oregon) was apparently so worked up about the Bush Administration's handling of the Iraq situation that he blurted out "f---ing" right in the middle of the interview.

To their credit, Larson's team was quick to dump the offending language, to the point where it's quite seamless in execution. Had they missed it, however, stations would have been in the odd position of facing FCC fines for the actions of a congressman!

Since that very legislative body recently enacted tough fines against broadcasters who fail to bleep obscene words, there's real irony here.
