Michael Savage - San Francisco Supervisors Illegal Alien Flap

NOT VERY BRIGHT

Dim-Bulb SF Supes Risk Turning Enemy Talker Into Hero

Though San Francisco's Board of Supervisors have rarely been accused of being terribly bright, a new proposal to condemn talk host Michael Savage seems especially stupid and threatens to play right into his hands.

While Savage's rhetoric in recent months has been particularly extreme, the move by SF's generally demented city-county supes may very well turn the talker into a hero for the many millions of Americans who view its civic leadership as downright moonbatty.

WorldNetDaily has been following the flap and its fallout. From their first Drudge- linked piece on the subject:

On the same day, apparently to further generate sympathy for immigrants and bolster Daly's bailout effort, Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval introduced a resolution condemning popular radio talk-show host Michael Savage, a mainstay of the San Francisco airways for years. Since he was syndicated nationally by Talk Radio Network, Savage has become one of the nation's most-listened-to radio talkers.

Condemning the "defamatory language used by radio personality Michael Savage against immigrants," Sandoval's resolution is apparently in response to Savage's July 5 broadcast, when the talker commented on a group of students who had announced they were fasting in support of changes in immigration policy.

"I would say, let them fast until they starve to death," quipped Savage, "then that solves the problem."

Sandoval's resolution calls Savage's comments "symbolic of hatred and racism," according to the Examiner.

"I really for the life of me cannot understand why there is not more media outrage to what Michael Savage said," Sandoval said in the Examiner report, which added that Sandoval plans to hold a press conference on the steps of City Hall Tuesday just before the entire Board of Supervisors votes on his resolution against Savage.

"The intolerant and racist comments of Michael Savage demand a strong condemnation," Sandoval insisted.

Later, an Internet- fuelled backlash began, with Savage himself receiving an offer of free legal counsel should he choose to file suit against Supervisor Sandoval:

Daniel A. Horowitz of Oakland, Calif., wrote to Savage after Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval introduced a resolution condemning the radio talker urging him to sue the official, whom he compared to Adolph Hitler, Josef Stalin and Hugo Chavez in the way he attempted to silence political speech by rallying the mob.

"You have a strong federal civil rights action that you can file against Supervisor Sandoval and the city of San Francisco," he advised. "You have a constitutional right to state your political opinions and no city official has the right to lie about what you said or to call for a mob to come to your door to threaten you and to try to have you fired."

Horowitz said the Civil Rights Act of 1871, designed to tame the terror of the Ku Klux Klan, can be used as the basis for a federal civil rights action against the official and the city.

"You are protected by this civil rights act because you are the victim of the same type of mob terror that (the) Klan used to inflict," wrote Horowitz. "This terror is being organized against you simply because people do not like what you say. Translated into legal language, you are being attacked by a type of terrorist because you have exercised your First Amendment rights."

Horowitz wrote: "The Klansman in your case is wearing a suit and not a white robe. He is doing his dirty work under the hood of his elected position instead of under the coward's hood of the Klan."

The call for action against Savage came at the same time city supervisors were considering using taxpayer dollars to pay for immigrants' green cards and citizenship.

Whether a potential Savage suit against Sandoval has any merit is unclear. But should the syndicated talker choose to take this course, it would provide a great deal of additional publicity for his show.

In the end, it's amazing to believe San Francisco's leaders don't recognize the benefit they are providing to Savage by pushing a condemnation resolution against him. Do they really see themselves as mainstream politicians? Do they not realize that many Americans see them as fringe kooks?

  • It is xtremely apparent that the people of SF. are breaking the law by harboring criminals, and should be made accountable.
They are deliberately daring the the born american citizens of the USA, to try to do anything about their anti american, traitor, and treasonous behavior.
Its time someone bucked up against them.
Its time for the real citizens of America, to call SF, ,. on their criminal behavior.

THE DFEDERAL GOVERMENT SHOULD CEASE ALL MONEYS, PROTECTION, TAKE OVER ALL JUDICIAL DEPARTMENTS, FIRE ALL STATE ATTORNEYS, FIRE ALL POLICE CHIEFS, DECLARE MARTIAL LAW, SHUT THE ENTIRE CITY DOWN WITH OUR MILITARY, WITH A SHOOT ON SIGHT. SINCE SF HAS DECLARED THEMSELVES AS A ROQUE CITY, WITH ANARCHY. PLACE ALL PRISONS ON MAXIMUM SECURITY, WITH MILITARY POLICE. THEN CLEAN HOUSE. BE A MAN OR WOMAN STAND UP STRAIGHT OBEY THE LAW, OR SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES.
THERE WILL BE SOME BACKLASH, BUT MOST ARE SO HOMOGENIZED, AND SUFFER FROM SELECTED DEMENTIA, THOSE HERD INTO CC CAMPS. I GUARANTEE YOU ALL OF THE CITY OFFICIALS WILL PULL A RED DAWN MAYORIAL, AND PEACE AND LAWS WILL REIGN.
MOST OF THE PEOPLE IN SF ARE JUST SO FAR GONE COMPARED TO HUMANITY, THEY SERVE NO PURPOSE TO SOCIETY, SO THEY WON'T BE MISSED.

  • Savage will win this one, I think. However, people still need to get the word out because this is not being reported in the MSM, of course. I'm not even seeing this story covered on many right wing blogs.

Mike was right when he said today that in the media, he stands alone. But he also knows that he has millions of patriotic Americans out there that will directly and indirectly support him in this, and in the future.

  • "Savage will win this one, I think."

    Of course he will win.

He is in a protected class, set apart.

How on Earth could he ever lose?

  • Michael Savage is one of the most, if not the most, intelligent Talk Show hosts out there. His listeners are faithful and believe he speaks the truth. Michael did NOT speak against immigrants, he spoke out against ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.
The Facists that are trying to destroy him and have him fired should lose their jobs and be sued to the hilt.
We stand behind Michael Savage 100%

  • Wow, Cobra, I thought we killed the Reichstag when we crushed Berlin in 1944. You obviously illustrate that the Brown Shirt mentality is alive and well in America. Sieg heil motherf*@&er!

You closet queens have really got to get control of your brown hysteria. Martial Law? Rogue City? CC Camps? I think someone needs a hug... and then a brick bat delivered most proficiently to their thick noggins. I can only hope that yours is a parody but, judging the number of Michael Savage fans I have encountered, your parody is dead on.

Tommy.... as for the "patriotic Americans" who will stand along side Savage (cool imagery of the lynch mob!) are these the same people that have refused to volunter to fight the wars they champion? Or are these the overweight wannabe soldiers who dubbed themselves "Minutemen"? These morons have done little more than make ICE's job more difficult because the agents have been encountering more border crossers who are armed as a result of fearing that they would be killed by some donut chomping, camouflage wearing "patriot" who lives in mom's basement. Really interesting. So many brave patriots and Bush's newest miltary adviser sends out a press release to the media last Friday evening (so it would run in the typically unread Saturday papers) making it clear that the draft is on the table as a real option to meet our recruitment obligations. And why would that be? Could the draft now be necessary because these "patriots" you speak of are little more than thong wearing girly men who can't seem to find the courage to join the military for which they love to boast their support (or would that be a fetish?) You expect them to stand with Michael Savage? And do what? Shake an pee in their lingerie in their pathetic anonymous little bunkers? Oh, I think not.

  • To Dave Carroll

You Dont get it Dave. In using some quotes from B.Godwater “The good Lord raised this mighty Republic to be a home for the brave and to flourish as the land of the free-not to stagnate in the swampland of collectivism”, Diversity, Liberalism, Islamic Radicals, and “not to cringe before the bully of communism”.
“The tide has been running against freedom”. “Our people have followed false prophets. We must, and we shall, return to proven ways-- not because they are old, but because they are true. We must, and we shall, set the tide running again in the cause of freedom”. And this is the way of Americans like me, “with our every action, every word, every breath, and every heartbeat, has but a single resolve, and that is freedom - freedom made orderly for this nation by our constitutional government; freedom under a government limited by laws of nature and of nature's God; freedom - balanced so that liberty lacking order will not become the slavery of the prison cell; balanced so that liberty lacking order will not become the license of the mob and of the jungle”!!.

  • Savage (and most of the people commenting on this article) needs to get a grip. I have no idea who runs SF, don't really care. But a resolution condemning hate speech is nothing new or original. I read the resolution, there's no threat there.

Savage can file a suit if he likes, anyone can, but he'll just be wasting his money (or, more likely, the money of the saps he'll get to donate to a defense fund or buy one of his books or that DVD). Of course the big winner either way is Savage, because he'll get free PR and he'll get more people to hop on his Web site, just like he did with that fake "mulling a run for president" announcement.

Here's a thought: What if Savage funded his lawsuit with the money in the Paul Revere Society? Remember that? That's the "educational foundation" that had its 501(c)(3) status pulled last year by the IRS. Savage still hasn't come clean about that. Last I saw, there was more than $900,000 in that account. (The tax returns are online. The last one he filed was in 2004 or 2005).

And isn't this Horowitz guy the same lawyer who represented Savage (when he was still a Weiner) in his suit against...I forget the university ... when it would not hire him as a professor? That one went down the drain, too.

By Blogger Bill Bowman, at 14 August, 2007 15:06

  • To Bill Bowman:
You don't get it. If SF is allowed to pass a resolution such as this, then the line on free speech will forever be changed. And one day, in the near future I presume, YOU will no longer be allowed to make comments on blogs like this. Even some like YOU can understand that. Furthermore, it is that lackadaisical attitude that you display which is the reason for this countries demise. Get a grrp, and stand up for yourself, because believe it or not, this DOES affect you!

  • Michael Savage has every right to bring a law suit aainst the City of S.F. To allow a government official to silence a radio talk show host sets a bad precedent for all talk show host be it right wing or left. Also these illegals that want so much to carry on the american dream is b.s. down here in L.A. try and have a decent discussion of the immigration problem and you are then labled a rascist. They come from a country where there is no freedom of speech, and that is what they want to import to the United States. Also, should Michael Savage claim a victory all monies awarded would be donated. This was stated on his aug 13th show.

  • Michael Savage is correct in regards to the political scene or lack of as far as San Francisco goes. San Diego is a close third behind Los Angeles. It is OUT OF CONTROL. Bush needs to step up and close the borders, enable local police and law enforcement to police their own cities, knock off the "sanctuary city" crap and get back to basics. Good luck Michael, Sandoval will be looking for a job soon along with the idiots that tried to shut you up.
