GNASHING, OR LAUGHING?

Media Monitoring Rush's Reaction To Gore Win

Which matters more to the mainstream media: that their hero (and global polluter) Al Gore won a Nobel Peace Prize, or that it might annoy talk titan Rush Limbaugh? At the moment, attention may be split right down the middle.

Rather than speculation on your Radio Equalizer's part, or an attempt by El Rushbo himself to crash Gore's party, media elitists really do relish the idea of Limbaugh "gnashing his teeth" upon hearing the news.

UPDATE: here's a fresh example. And another. More.

Of course, at least some of their energy is reserved for salivating over the thought of Gore running for president, even if they doubt he will.

From Time Magazine this morning:

Gore Wins the Nobel. But Will He Run?

For the past year, Al Gore has gone about his considerable business without showing much interest in running for president. While picking up an Oscar and an Emmy, publishing a very smart book and playing host at a global concert for the planet, he's never done more than tease the idea.

And yet all that time, the leaders of the Draft Gore movement have been clinging to a single fervid dream: that Gore would win the Nobel Peace Prize and use it to catapult himself to an eleventh-hour bid for the presidency.

Now the Nobel Committee has done its part, awarding Gore the Peace Prize for being "probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted" to combat climate change, according to his citation. (The United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was also a joint winner of the prize.)

And so, after the obligatory spasms of celebration and the equally obligatory gnashing of Rush Limbaugh's teeth, will Americans finally get to enjoy one of the great spectacles in political history, as Gore's ultimate honor levitates him beyond his leading rival, Hillary Clinton, and into the Oval Office?

Nope.

Is Rush gnashing his teeth right now? Our guess is he's thrilled to hear the news, as Gore's win provides fresh opportunities to create parody songs and wonder aloud what an algore candidacy might do to Hillary Clinton's operation.

Actually, Limbaugh was also a nominee, but knew as well as anyone that his chance of getting past the ultra- liberal Nobel committee was somewhere between zip and zilch. As a result, he treated it as a joke from the beginning.

But that didn't stop oddsmakers at Ireland's Paddy Power from including Limbaugh in their Nobel book:

Paddy Power, an Irish oddsmaker, gives Gore 13-8 odds of winning the prize. The bookmaker gives Bono 16-1.

Take all of this with the proverbial grain of salt, as the folks at Paddy Power have Rush Limbaugh (200-1) edging out President Bush (250-1) and Tony Blair (250-1).

In the end, the safest bet in town is that the only teeth- gnashing going on now is taking place over at Hillary headquarters.

  • I am hoping and praying that Gore enters the race. It would be wonderful to see Hillary, Obama, and Gore bash it out in a 3-way. Hillary will still win, but the battle would be terrific to watch.

Due to his wife's idiotic comments, the spineless Edwards doesn't have a chance.

  • tc - that's a great link to the survey! Thanks.

It uses the same type of investigative non-biased survey reporting that most of the left relies on.

Regarding the question: Does Al Gore deserve the Nobel Peace Prize?

My answer: He deserves is just as much as Yasser Arafat deserved it in 1994.

If you understand the liberal logic, it makes perfect sense.

    Arafat's Terrorism = Peace

    Orwell's 1984 Ministry of Truth = Peace

    Gore's Global Warming = Peace

  • Al Gore, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton have done much more for the world after serving their country than another who has and continues to only sky dive, play golf and pilot his yacht off the coast of Maine.

  • If Al runs for president then he will certainly have to be more careful about what he says and how he says it. As it is, he can do whatever he wants - the perfect devil's advocate. He can have at it - he's got nothing to loose. If he becomes a candidate, then he'll no longer be the same Al Gore. He'll be a presidential candidate busy making promises and politics. I'd rather have him on his climate soapbox.

I think you are refering to the RNC radio hosts you masturbate to. The GOP is indeed Orwellian, don't even try it, freak of nature.

"its not Iraq folks it's Iran"
    big Brother Limbagh

Benson, your whole existance is based on right wing Orwelian lies.
The GOP keeps you in check, clinging on to their words dreaming of bathroom sex with Limbaugh by using the Orwellian 1984 concept

    PERPETUAL STATE OF WAR

the libs are not doing that, your side is, freak of nature

now whip out your broken down member and stroke to the smooth sounds of the Limbaugh on the radio

PERPETUAL STATE OF WAR= 1984= GOP

    Benson is projecting again

still in denial about Global warming, your masters have you trained like Pavlov's dog.

you will die a misrable man, spent your whole life with your tongue entrenched up the GOP's ass

  • Hello,

I am austrian, christian, member of the austrian conservative party. Still when i have visited this site i just thought: Oh my god, how stupid are some american conservatives already!!!

Why is everything in america always a matter of parties?? I was surprised about the views to the nobel price for Mr. Al Gore.
He is a man mostly respected all over in my country, in all european countries from conservative, social democrats, greens, national democrats and liberals.
I dont care about his past, he is an altruistic, intelligent man helping to make the world a better place. And environment is a theme for us all - doesnt matter which party or religion we support.

Is this so hard to understand for american conservatives? Enough brain washed through the most stupid TV station on earth - FOX???
Well we know about the world, seems to be you didnt understand it.

I can just say the only reason europe doesnt hate the USA and americans for bringing the world
new wars which dont help us to fight the terrorism (not Afghanistan that was the right decision, but Iraq), are
people like Al Gore which show us your nation isnt completly nuts and idiotic.

Think over, its time you get what you have been 60 years ago - liberators, democrats which bring the world forward.

    wish you a good day

  • I wonder if fans of Al Gores inconvenient truth, global warming movie, understand who financed the movie, and of the involvement of certain people that might be surprising.
