Reminding Republican presidential candidates and listeners that he was against it from the start, talk titan Rush Limbaugh today delivered an "I told you so" to the contenders for foolishly agreeing to last night's YouTube debate fiasco.
Since the debate aired, it has emerged that questions were planted by Democrat operatives, including declared supporters of Dem presidential candidates.
The resulting fallout has proven a huge blow to CNN's credibility, since it co-sponsored and aired the forum.
Even notorious media suck-up and rival cable talker Joe Scarborough thinks CNN knew about the plants in advance. One audience member who asked a question about gays in the military even turned out to have an official role in the Clinton campaign!
Railing against the "kooks" who were allowed to ask questions, including a conspiracy- laced rant directed at Rep Ron Paul (R- TX), Rush was stunned to think any Republicans didn't realize in advance that CNN would stack the deck against them.
"I thought the Unabomber was out of jail and asking questions on YouTube," Limbaugh told his audience today.
A search through Limbaugh's archives reveals that he did in fact advise Republicans against participating in the event. In fact, his predictions turned out to be stunningly accurate, as though he could see into the future.
The conversation occurred during his 30 July 2007 program. Here's the transcript:
Burned GOP candidates ought to be asking themselves today why they didn't listen to Limbaugh instead of caving into mainstream media pressure to participate in CNN's rigged forum.

RUSH: The controversy here over the Republicans not participating in the upcoming YouTube CNN debate has led to lots of discussion, as some people think the Republicans are going to have this backfire on them because you gotta go out there and you gotta face the people. If you're afraid to face the people, meaning the averageAmericans who upload their questions via video on YouTube, then you're acting cowardly and so forth. Note the Democrats, to this day are scared to death to go on Fox, you got Barack Obama and Hillary in a meaningless argument over which thug around the world they will talk to when, the fact is, neither of them has the guts to go on Fox News for a debate. But you don't hear that portrayed in the Drive-By Media.
Now the Republicans say, "You know what, the office of the presidency is a little bit higher, has a little bit more prejudice than subjecting ourselves to questions from idiots dressed up as snowmen and so forth." Now they're saying it's going to backfire on them, and this was a discussion on CNN's Reliable Sources on Sunday with Howard Kurtz. He's talking with Jeff Jarvis, media critic. Kurtz says, "They were supposed to, or at least was tentatively scheduled, a Republican presidential debate with CNN YouTube format for September. Now a lot of the Republicans are expressing reservations, have scheduling problems. Do you think the Republicans are being aware of being questioned by people who submit their queries through YouTube?"
JARVIS: I think they're revealing themselves to be a bunch of fraidy cats. The Republicans for some reason have not done as much on the interpret and YouTube as the Democrats have, though in Europe it's conservatives who are ahead on YouTube, so it's not a bias thing as Rush Limbaugh tried to insist this week. I think the Republicans were trying to find some way to weasel out of this, and they used scheduling excuses, bias excuses, dignity excuses, but I think it's going to come around. I'm going to bet it's going to happen, and because they can't avoid talking to us.
RUSH: They are not trying to avoid talking to you. By the way, they're going to try to reschedule this thing for December, is what I'm hearing. I never said the Republicans shouldn't do it because of bias. We all know there's bias in the Drive-By Media. We all know that CNN's going to choose questions based on their agenda, based on what they get submitted to them. We know there's going to be bias.
I suggested that it would be a rotten thing to do because it's demeaning to the office. It lowers the office to the level of the lowest common denominator of pop culture.This is being presented as some revolutionary new thing, and it's not. It's no different than having an audience in there that you stand around, you run around with a microphone, let 'em ask questions and so forth, and you know how well that goes, and you know that they have never turned over, CNN nor any network has never turned over totally a debate to people in the audience. They occasionally go to people in the audience, like the ponytailed guy in Richmond, Virginia, back in 1992 who wanted all those candidates to explain to him how they were going to treat us like their children and so forth, it was gag me with a spoon time on that.
If I were these professional journalists, I'd be a little upset that I'm being aced out of this. The Drive-By Media is in enough trouble as it is without their prestige being put on the line here by claiming that the debate will be better with these yahoos sitting out there with these cameras submitting their stuff via upload to YouTube.
Burned GOP candidates ought to be asking themselves today why they didn't listen to Limbaugh instead of caving into mainstream media pressure to participate in CNN's rigged forum.

hunter, disgraced the entire Armed Forces last night, he stated the militarty is too "conservative" to deal with gays in the military. first of all, the military is not conservative, this is a TOTAL LIE. I spent time on bases, with my ex, nope, no conservatives serving, only a-political kids and the comissioned older people, LIBERALS!!! Hunter basically said "soliders are too stupid to deal with gays"

I don't think it is a huge blow to CNN, because their lack of credibility was in the tank way before the debate. CNN can't fall much lower.
Remember these CNN screwups:
Operation Tailwind, CNN NewsStand (1998). Lying/fabricating. The televised special claimed that the U.S. military used nerve gas in a mission to kill American defectors in Laos during the Vietnam War, but the story had no factual support. CNN later retracted the story.
Eason Jordon and CNN (2003). Admitted bias, slanting the news. Eason Jordan, CNN's news chief, admitted that CNN withheld reporting on Saddam Hussein's atrocities so as to continue getting favored treatment from Saddam.
(2005). False accusations. CNN Eason Jordan accused U.S. forces in Iraq of deliberately targeting and killing journalists. He apologized and resigned.
(2002). CNN reported: "There's almost a massacre now taking place in Jenin, the Palestinian refugee camp. Helicopter gun ships are throwing missiles at one square kilometer packed with almost 15,000 people in a refugee camp . . . This is a war crime, clear war crime." However, the actual "death toll was 56 Palestinians, the majority of them combatants, and 23 Israeli soldiers."

Yes it IS rigged, if the PLANT is a Hillary Clinton operative. CNN once again failed in their alleged investigative background check.
And did you notice, CNN gave more time to the gay military guy on a single topic then they gave to any of the candidates. People in the audience started booing him. This is not a pressing issue that Americans care about.

CNN ought to be forced to host a Democrat debate where disguised GOP operatives get to ask all the questions.
Watch the Democrats run from that as none of their candidates will answer a fair question squarely and truthfully.

This is indeed a big issue. Every week, 2-3 soldiers, brave & heroic are tossed because their gay sexuality, is exposed. This has included, highly decorated vets.

NOONE wants OR needs to know the sexual orientation of the soldier standing next to them. I am offended that they "MUST be GAY soldiers". Why can't they be Americans, first and foremost, THEN soldiers, and last but not least, who they hell CARES to tell people if they sleep with opposite sex? MOST people tend to keep their bedroom private, except WHO?!?! That's right, gay people. NOONE cares. WE don't WANT to know. End of story.

Anyone like anonymous who poses an asinine question like "who they [sic} hell CARES to tell people if they sleep with opposite sex?", demonstrates that he never served in the military.
Servicemen spend an inordinate amount of time talking about sex. Being in uniform brings the "guy" out in you. I remember being with a bunch of reservists who were serving their weekend drill. It was a Friday evening less than an hour being on duty and we were all in a six-by heading down a major boulvevard when a hot blonde in a convertible rolls up. These guys were acting like they hadn't seen a woman in years with the cat calls, the gestures, etc. In their civilian life maybe the construction workers would do this but most of these guys (late 20's and 30's) work in an office where they would NEVER, EVER behave that way. Why? Because its a guy thing. When you're on duty you talk about girls and sex and high school conquests. That's just the way it is.
Now, if you're gay and in uniform you either have to shut up or pretend you're a super-stud straight guy to fit in. If you're gay and decided you'd talk about your real conquests like every other guy around the scuttlebutt you'd be drummed out of the service. So you lie or remain silent. That makes a good serviceman or woman who happens to be gay resort to being deceptive in order to serve their country. How is living a secretive life good for our country? Doesn't that lead to opportunities of blackmail? What if you have an intel guy who happens to get caught by the enemy in a compromising position. Could not the threat of exposure make him susceptible to recruitment for spying?
You neanderthals need to grow up and enter the real world. The rest of the western world figured this out years ago and allow their gay servicemen to serve openly.
Typical nancy hawks. You so miss the point. Then again, as you never served, you never had to worry about exposing your dirty little secretive lives, did you?

It doesn't bother me that Dems got to ask questions. This is a Presidential election and the candidates should be able to address all issues not just those that give them the best soundbites.
Where CNN crossed the line was allowing the Clinton plant to grab a mic and start ANSWERING his own question. Asking questions is one thing... going on an extended rant is another.

Secondly, I guess these networks just operate under the quaint idea that those evil liberals and "surrender monkeys" are actually American citizens as well, and have a right to ask a question of a Republican candidate.

The current Dem/CNN talking point appears to be that the GOP should be asked a variety of questions. However, the point is that news organizations should disclose material affiliations. CNN has failed to do that in at least the last two debates.
As for the candidates boycotting the debates, that's a bad idea. They should just let things happen: after enough embarassment the MSM might avoid being so blatant.
As for the "conspiracy" question, I'm going to guess that was from another plant. However, those "conspiracies" are actually gleams in the eyes of some very powerful people and there are steps in place to construct something like the NAFTASuperhighway. I'd suggest much more research, starting with all the articles here.

For crying out loud. The "don't ask, don't tell" policy was the very first thing Bill Clinton did when he became president. This was a Clinton mandate.
Secondly, why were Democrat plants and questions used for the Republican candidate debate? Isn't this debate and every debate prior to the caucus in Iowa and the primaries to help REPUBLICANS decide who to vote for? This was a set up from the beginning to try to make the Republicans look bad. Shame on CNN and all of the democraps who tried to sabotage the program.
Shame on the Republican candidates for even taking part in this three-ring circus.

They were valid, challenging, fair questions that shook up the debate. What's wrong with having a democrat of any stripe ask them? It's not a valid point if a democrat makes it??
I hope the Democratic candidates get asked some tough, challenging questions at their next debate, be it from Democrats or Republicans.
And Brian, weren't you part of the crew taunting Democrats for refusing to debate on Fox News? ("If they can't face Fox, how can they face Al-Qaeda?") So if Democrats won't debate at GOP News, they're afraid, but if Republicans won't debate at CNN, they're proving a point?

CNN is about a Democrat as Ron Paul is a Republican. Please note that the sponsor of the debate was "Clean Coal," a names as oxymoronic as "consentual rape." Notice how the debate shied away from questions about global warming and the effects of the coal industry? And as much noise as has been made about the supposed "Democratic plant", and the obvious steps made to keep "groups" from having their agenda put forth in the debate, there was no shying away from Grover Norquist who represents a decidedly right wing, well funded organization, "Americans For Tax Reform." If CNN was staying away from "groups", why was Norquist not filtered out? If CNN is the supposed "Clinton News Network", why would they allow such a right wing hack to make the video cut?
