New Mexico Democrat Will Push To Destroy Talk Radio After Election

PRIORITY ONE

Dem Senator Outlines Vindictive Plan To Eliminate Talk Radio

*** BOSTON HOST ARRESTED, FUGITIVE FROM JUSTICE ***
*** CHICAGO TALK STATION'S BONEHEADED PROGRAMMING MOVE ***
*** PICKING APART ONE NEW POLL ***

In a stunning admission most Democrats have been unwilling to make in public, a New Mexico senator has revealed his desire to eliminate commercial talk radio and its opposition voices as soon as it is politically feasible.

With the possibility of a Democratic Party supermajority after the upcoming elections, Jeff Bingaman may soon get his wish to quash dissenting viewpoints.

During an interview with KOB/ Albuquerque host Jim Villanucci, Bingaman overtly stated his full support for imposing Fairness Doctrine restrictions on free speech which would effectively shut down talk radio as we know it today.

If enacted, the Fairness Doctrine (which is anything but) would create logistical nightmares for radio programmers, leading quickly to shuttered stations. The need to "balance" every viewpoint presented would also destroy the entertainment value of talk radio, driving away the audience.

With most major operators currently in deep financial trouble for unrelated reasons, these new restrictions on free speech could represent the final blow for the commercial broadcasting industry.

Even when confronted with the fact that Albuquerque is home to conservative and liberal commerical outlets, as well as public and satellite radio offerings, Bingaman still indicated he would support the move to silence talk radio.

Here's a clip of the exchange:

Though many have suspected Democrats would enact revenge on conservative talk radio after the election, Bingaman has foolishly suggested that it is on the table, despite previous denials from others in his party.

For their part, liberal talk hosts such as Ed Schultz have used those denials to claim no such plan is in the works, even going on the offensive against conservatives who say otherwise. Now, Schultz and others in the "progressive" talk area will be forced to admit that it may become a reality.

Worse, it will have the same chilling effect on their programming. Because conservative talk is so much more successful, however, liberal Democrats may be willing to sacrifice Air America if it means shutting down Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin and others.

  • The crazies on the left have finally reached their level of Nirvana (as described in George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four).

I guess we can look forward to many years of Doublethink and Newspeak. There will be a lot of blood shed during the battle.

It is ironic that the industry affected is the radio talk show, but the biased mass media and questionable TV reporting takes a full pass.

The Democrats have unleashed the kraken. The battle is joined!

  • What the single-minded, free-speech-quelching proponents of reinstating the "Fairness Doctrine" may not realize, much like the RIAA, is that the information medium of the internet creates an entirely new obstacle to silencing the voice of the majority. And let's be clear: the majority of Americans are very clearly conservative and individually minded.

It is a strange ideology (modern liberalism) that so desperately seeks to destroy that which has kept it alive for so long. Anyone capable of logical reasoning has long since left the socialist extreme-left bandwagon - never to return. It is only due, in my opinion, to the mindless, cheap yammering of countless idiots like Al Franken, Rhandi Rhodes, Ed Schultz, Jon Stewart, etc. that liberalism even survives. Left-wing America is chock full of asinine, sketchy people proposing impossible solutions that your average happy-feely liberal is too stupid to dissect or even bother trying. The freedoms that they are willing to sacrifice in the name of pursuing these dubious goals are absolutely astounding. Winning back a freedom once it has been taken away is a very daunting task indeed.

  • Hey, if we are going to have a "fairness" doctrine, then it follows that it should extend to all venues of the dispensing of information. The Academy? They are now required to have a 50% "right-wing" faculty. K-12 also. The NYTimes newsroom? They better consider cutting some jobs and making way for transfers from the New York Post. MSNBC? Rachel Maddow loses her show and has it replaced by Mark Steyn. Comedy Central cancels the Colbert Report for the P.J. O'Rourke Happy Half-Hour. These assholes really want a fairness doctrine, I say we give 'em one.

  • FACT

    * Over 90% of all talk radio is right wing propaganda.

Why ~ Cuzz they OWN the market and it SERVES their interest.

    That's also called a monopoly.

The conservative radio monopoly has cheated the American people out of the most valuable critical information needed for ration decision making.

Are you better off today than you were 8 yrs ago...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 22 October, 2008 23:12

  • BTW ~ I'd be happy with only 15% of the talk radio market for Liberal / Progressive talk radio.

Cuzz ~ I know that would enough to flip the market and so don't the greedy elitist money bags.

Your a PINHEAD! Ever heard of Air America? They have Liberal talkshows. Here's the catch... they're hatemongers and no one wants to listen to that. Conservitive radio works because it is the truth and it's entertaining. By the way...I am better now then I was 8 years ago. Guess you wounldn't know that feeling being miserable in your pathetic life

  • "FACT

    * Over 90% of all talk radio is right wing propaganda.

Why ~ Cuzz they OWN the market and it SERVES their interest."

Hey Anonymous, how did the right wing end up owning the market? How did we get from the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine in the 80s to where we are today? Because conservative ideas sell and sound better on radio than liberal ones, where the listener is focusing on what the talker is actually saying. Air America is the most recent proof of that, as it required substantial cash from wealthy interests to stay afloat. It just never got the market share to be profitable. Conservative radio, on the other hand, is profitable. It attracts advertisers.

Propaganda? Come on, have you ever listened to talk radio? Many hosts, such as Mike Gallagher, give more time to callers that disagree with the host's point of view. How can it be propaganda when the opposing viewpoint is heard?

And for your information, the talk radio community is often critical of the Bush administration and Congressional Republicans, often when those elected Republicans betray core conservative principles.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 23 October, 2008 00:50

  • Democrats are fascists.
They drag a mentally-challenged man from his nursing home without family consent and force him to vote for their Fuhrer Obama.

A lot of people tried to negotiate with the first Nazis.
They tried to dismiss them as an aberration. They didn't act to stop them. They thought the political process would keep out fringe elements. They didn't count on fraud and intimidation perverting their national will. Until it was too late.

Well, in the end, there's only one way to stop Nazis.
You'd think we'd have learned that lesson, but apparently not.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 23 October, 2008 02:00

  • Every time a conservative writes a comment with facts and figures, theres always some liberal spouting the word "propaganda" or "right wing owns the media", or some other nonsense. Talk radio shows have sponsors who pay for the time because they know people listen to the show. Thats how it works. People don't listen to Air America, sponsors don't buy time, and their show circles the drain.....case closed.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 23 October, 2008 03:29

  • I don't see any mention of NPR or PBS. Will the BBC be banned as well? I guess that depends on who the arbiter of what is 'liberal' and 'conservative' decides.

  • WHAT an IDIOT!
    How backwards is this MORON?
Fairness Doctrine is an ABOMINATION of our Free Speech Rights. ONLY the COMMUNISTS/DEMOCRATS, spineless and Anti-American, would "support" this "fairness doctrine". By the way I LOVE the way they give a title to something REPULSIVE and "name it" so that it is perceived as "non-threatening".
Pelosi, Reid, Murtha, Obama, and this DINGBELL should WAKE UP and start solving real problems instead of trying to destroy the only avenues for truth left in the United States...radio.
I pray for this Country for the signs are all there that our demise (a) will come from within and (b) will occur so rapidly that those that sat SILENTLY doing nothing will realize it...too late.
WAKE UP AMERICAN CITIZENS and DEMAND your rights. DEMAND that ILLEGALS go to JAIL and/or be deported. DEMAND that Voter Fraud/Registration FRAUD individuals AND the "officers" are prosecuted under RICO (organized crime) statutes like drug crimes are.
Let's DEMAND safety in our streets and after we get these, and many other REAL problems SOLVED, then we can debate this BONE HEAD about the "fairness doctrine".
    Nuff said.

  • Have you ever watched public access TV? I say bring on the fairness doctrine and bring a little balance to the left propaganda on those outlets. Given the dominance of liberal perspecive on outlets other than AM radio, I say the majority of Americans would benefit from a dose of 'both sides' on NBC, LINK TV, NPR, John Stewart, etc. My question is how do we make sure the left's mouthpieces are also considered in enforcing anything our brave leaders impose on us.

You will still have your sick, nazi shows, to brainwash you against your own workimg class citizens. You are useful idiots. Talk radio is for useful idiots to vote against their own best interest

cons are so brainwashed and brain dead, in their sick minds tax cuts for workers is socialism!!! These cowards will fight to the death for the rich!!! The rich would not even piss on them if they were on fire, yet cons after 10 hours a day of con radio are ready to fight against workers and fight for the rich!!!

Air America is carried there on an HD radio sideband. If the Fairness Doctrine is implemented, I believe the vast majority of stations carrying conservative talkers will simply put some kind of liberal programming on an HD sideband and not really care if anyone listens to that stream or not.

Should they have a fairness docturine on them as well?

I listen to talk radio because I get information I do not hear from these sources.

Let the dems try and silence us. There's internet streaming, there is satellite radio, there are ways for the message to still get out.

  • Sometimes, for a laugh, I force myself to try and tune in to the Goodyear Blimp 'excellence in broadcasting' humble and fair Rush Limbaugh, and am always dumbfounded at each and every caller, as they begin by telling Limbug how honored they are to be able to talk with the blowhard,, - Have you ever noticed how his program only allows callers who are right wing wackos, and think Limbug is their Guru?? How any thinking person can listen to this hatemonger is beyond me

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 23 October, 2008 16:52

  • Dumbfounded Anonymous answered his own question: "How any thinking person can listen to this hatemonger is beyond me"

with his own comments in the very same posting that he forces himself to tune into the show. Rush does not care if his listeners support him or not. He just wants them to listen and add to the audience numbers. It is obvious that most of the left-wing media also listen because they are constantly using Rush quotes on their so-called "news" shows.

Ironically, the media never bothered to fill their airtime with quotes from a true hatemonger like Al Franken (while he was on Air America).

By Blogger The Benson Report, at 23 October, 2008 18:20

  • If we can have liberals complaining about Conservative radio and wanting it to be "balanced" (actually taken down,) what's to stop Mr. Jones, who likes to listen to Jazz music to petition the FCC for equal time on the local Top40 radio station. It's fair - the fairness doctrine, right?

    Not.

If liberals want fairness, they should (without the need for a Fairness doctrine law) get some commercial backing and listenership for their own programs on other radio or tv stations. The real problem for the liberals is that they DO NOT have audiences for their liberal rants.

And, why aren't the TV and Cable news channels not fighting this more openly? Can you image the FCC saying that each MSNBC and CNN liberal rant needs to be followed by a Conservative equal-time report. Could it be that if people find out about Obama's real plans they'll vote for McCain?

Let's elect John McCain and keep radio and TV as they are today. Win one more for the Gipper.

    And, God bless America.

It was living with another "thing" in Long Beach and finally croaked with AIDS -- too bad it didn't happen to that on also. Next, I find it moved or was thrown out from LA and of course, ended up in San Franpsycho. I sent it an email at KGO and they blocked it. I suspect everyone was blocked from that one's email address. What a laugh. Maybe someone should make a "personal appearance" at KGO and see if they would block that also.
