Rush Limbaugh, Dominican Republic, Miami, Drugs

Were Illegal Drugs Found At Airport Monday Evening?

*** UPDATED Tuesday Evening With Audio and Video Links, PLUS: What Law Was Broken?***

Matt Drudge is quickly pouring cold water on a breaking news report from CBS-4 / Miami that claims Rush Limbaugh was being held at Palm Beach's airport tonight after authorities found illegal prescription drugs upon the mega-talker's return from the Dominican Republic.

From CBS-4:

Limbaugh Detained At Airport

Joy Purdy

(CBS4 News) WEST PALM BEACH Sources have confirmed to CBS4 News that conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh has been detained at Palm Beach International Airport for the possible possession of illegal prescription drugs Monday evening.

Limbaugh was returning on a flight from the Dominican Republic when officials found the drugs, among them Viagra.

Limbaugh entered a plea deal back in April in a previous case where his charge of fraud to conceal information to obtain prescriptions was dropped under the condition he continue undergoing treatment for addiction.

Limbaugh had admitted to being addicted to pain killers on his radio program and had entered a rehabilitation program prior to that arrest.

According to Drudge:

UPDATE: Rush Limbaugh 'had no illegal drugs or prescription drug obtained illegally in his possession,' source says, contrary to a claim by CBS-TV in Miami... MORE...

If the report turns out to be inaccurate or outright untrue, it will most certainly bring back memories of the "Rush Limbaugh arrested" network news flashes from earlier this year, which resulted in the misleading images shown here.

Will there be another "mugshot" to plaster across CNN, MSNBC and other liberal networks?

And was he really caught with Viagra? What a scandal!

Watch for updates...

Rush Limbaugh’s Attorney Roy Black Responds to Media Inquiries

Miami, FL -- June 26, 2006 -- Roy Black, Rush Limbaugh's attorney, issued the following statement today in response to several inquiries by the media:

While going through routine Customs inspection of luggage at Palm Beach International Airport upon his return from an international trip, Rush Limbaugh was detained by customs agents after they noticed a non-narcotic prescription drug, which had been prescribed by Mr. Limbaugh's treating physician but labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes. After a brief interview, Mr. Limbaugh was permitted to continue on his journey.

Filled with hate, liberals are already salivating over this one. Has Olbermann already taken his cheap shots? Yes, from MSNBC tonight, see top-left image.

From the right, AMERICABlog thinks Rush could be in trouble. Assorted Babble sees bias at work.

NEW this morning, from the AP:

Limbaugh detained at Palm Beach airport
Associated Press

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Rush Limbaugh was detained for more than three hours Monday at Palm Beach International Airport after authorities said they found a bottle of Viagra in his possession without a prescription.

Customs officials found a prescription bottle labeled as Viagra in his luggage that didn't have Limbaugh's name on it, but that of two doctors, said Paul Miller, spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

A doctor had prescribed the drug, but it was "labeled as being issued to the physician rather than Mr. Limbaugh for privacy purposes," Roy Black, Limbaugh's attorney, said in a statement.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection examined the 55-year-old radio commentator's luggage after his private plane landed at the airport from the Dominican Republic, said Miller.

The matter was referred to the sheriff's office, whose investigators interviewed Limbaugh. According to Miller, Limbaugh said that the Viagra was for his use, and that he obtained it from his doctors.

Investigators confiscated the drugs, which treats erectile dysfunction, and Limbaugh was released without being charged.

The sheriff's office plans to file a report with the state attorney's office. Miller said it could be a second-degree misdemeanor violation.

CNN's version is here.

Matt Drudge's brief transcript:

Rush Limbaugh, comedian. Audio at The Media Crunch.

Outside The Beltway has video.

Per MSNBC, of all places:

Limbaugh joked about the search on his radio show Tuesday, saying Customs officials didn’t believe him when he said he got the pills at the Clinton Library and he was told they were blue M&Ms. He later added, chuckling: “I had a great time in the Dominican Republic. Wish I could tell you about it.”

It is generally not illegal under Florida law for a physician to prescribe medication in a third party’s name if all parties are aware and the doctor documents it correctly, said Mike Edmondson, a spokesman for the state attorney in Palm Beach County. He would not discuss specifics in the Limbaugh case Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office was continuing its investigation and would soon turn the case over to prosecutors, Edmondson said. The alleged violation could be a second-degree misdemeanor if Limbaugh’s doctor doesn’t confirm the prescription.

Under last month’s deal with prosecutors, authorities will dismiss a “doctor shopping” charge if Limbaugh doesn’t get arrested for 18 months, among other terms. Prosecutors had said he illegally deceived multiple doctors to get overlapping painkiller prescriptions. Limbaugh denied the charges but admitted he was addicted to painkillers.

  • Rush Limpaugh!

Seriously though, he may have broken the terms of his plea deal with prosecutors.

By Blogger Lifa, at 26 June, 2006 23:12

  • I'll be talking about it on WRKO / Boston at 9am EDT.

  • "Filled with hate, liberals are already salivating . . . "

Well, we try. But to tell you the truth, the mouth is feeling kinda dry at the moment. Hate gives me cottonmouth.

By Blogger Billmon, at 26 June, 2006 23:53

  • Who cares? Rush will have 25 million listeners tomorrow instead of 20. Besides, how many station did he lose while in rehab? None. This will not affect him at all.

By Blogger Brian, at 27 June, 2006 00:20

  • I would tend to agree, Brian. Though I can't and don't listen to him at my "job."

I think he is too much of a Bushbot, though he has disagreed with the President on some things like spending, immigration and such.

This type of garbage would be pounced upon by the New York Times, Boston Globe, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, San Fran. Chronicle when they aren't compromising our national security!

And I wish I could listen online to WRKO online--well the computer at my job has i-net connection, but no speakers. Well, can't win 'em all.

By Blogger The Real Bob Anthony, at 27 June, 2006 07:04

  • Patriot sheep
The Ny Times never compromised national security. This story about monitoring financial records of suspected terrorists, is NOTHING NEW, the White House briefed the press that we do this to stop terrorism, after we busted a group of terrorists in Yemen. You play right into the radical fascists hands, Patriot sheep. The story was public knowledge for 3 years, since the White House announced it. How did the Times do anything wrong, when the governmenty briefed the press?
Patriot Sheep, can't answer. he repeats the talkingpoint, unknowingly attacking the free press(which did nothing wrong by reeporting a story the White House briefed them on) and attacking the foundations this country was built on. Patriot?????hardly a patriot

By Blogger rightwingwhiner, at 27 June, 2006 09:47

  • So why was Rush visiting the child prostitution capital of the Western Hemisphere with an unlabeled bottle of viagra? Was he with his wife? Oh that's right, he's not married. Since he's a righteous born-again Christian, I'm sure he has a good explanation. Right?...Hello?...Is that the sound of crickets?

By Blogger Not the Senator, at 27 June, 2006 10:00

  • good point. Mr. sanctity of marriage Limbaugh, with 3 divorces and NO OFFSPRING. Limbaugh does not practice the sanctity of marriage the bible tells him to follow.

what a joke, and fraud. He preys on the un-informed and ignorant, weakening America by propaganda. Brian supports this hypocritical monster, because he unknowingkly6 hates America

By Blogger rightwingwhiner, at 27 June, 2006 10:17

  • Talent on loan from Oxys, and Viagra too! When this all blows over Rush will still have about 14 million more listeners than Franken.

By Blogger raccoonradio, at 27 June, 2006 11:02

  • Rush is the only man in America that can take Viagra and the moonbats are the ones that end up with woodies.

By Blogger Rich in MT, at 27 June, 2006 11:16

  • Um, ass, rush Limbaugh was arrested. They don’t take mug shots of people who aren’t arrested. Tool.

By Blogger tmcd, at 27 June, 2006 12:06

  • Not really going to be a big deal. Life will go on and Rush will keep cashing his checks.

But it sure is a hell of a lot of fun to endlessly mock the self-important windbag, though!

    What a tool.

Your head would be exploding in exctacy if John Kerry, Al Gore, Franken or any "liberal" was arrested with illegal viagra. It would explode in joy. You freaks attack , we will attack your brain, Limbaugh. Limbaugh thinks for you, Limbaugh controls you, Limbaugh is your brain

Sorry putz, that is offensive to gays. An apology is in order. Why do you think you can insult gays, then say, gee, didn't mean to insult you? What kind of putz are you, anyway?

By Blogger Rich in MT, at 27 June, 2006 18:57

  • What Limbaugh(Limpbaugh?) did was a relatively minor infraction. BUT, HE IS ONLY TWO MONTHS INTO AN 18 MONTH PROBATION! Could this mean hard time for Limpbaugh?

You see the Rightwingwhiner types all the time on leftwing kook blogs.

They're so arrogant and self-righteous, and believe that they're the only good people.

Therefore, they can make racist, homophobic, sexist etc. comments and not be called on them.

When push come to shove, they just don't have any class.

By Blogger Brett, at 27 June, 2006 20:08

  • Fascinating. To the left side of the blogosphere, Rush Limbaugh's possession of his own, legally prescribed prescription medication is a bigger deal than the New York Times helping terrorists murder Americans.

    By Blogger V the K, at 27 June, 2006 20:43

  • So when CVS has misprinted my bottle so that it looks like I am the doctor and he is the patient, am I a felon if I use the pills?

By Blogger SCSIwuzzy, at 27 June, 2006 22:41

  • But seriously folks...

There is one nagging question about Limbaugh's latest saga I've yet to see addressed. What was Rush doing in the Dominican Republic with his bottle of Viagra? Isn't it well-known that the D R is the hub of the Carribian sex trade? Is it not true that there are very relaxed standards there regarding sex-for hire, age of consent, etc? Are any of my conservative friends bothered at all that Limbaugh may have been engaging in paid sex with underage partners during his little weekend get-a-way?

    Just wondering.

By Blogger peppertude, at 28 June, 2006 02:54

  • My guess is Limbaugh's prescription for Viagra has to do with his hearing loss. A nurse friend of mine suggested that Viagra assists in promoting blood flow to the ears.
Any Medical folks out there care to comment?

By Blogger Rich in MT, at 28 June, 2006 08:48

  • Yup, a bottle full of pills for a trip of just a few days?

Whaddya think, he was plowing a 14 year old girl? Or a 12 year old boy?

I would believe either one in a second, otherwise why fly out of the country?

Probably could get high over there too, and no one would care.

I am sure it was for "cigars".

    Sometimes a cigar...aint just a cigar.

By Blogger Daniel, at 28 June, 2006 12:51

  • V

Nothing written about the swiss account monitoring program was top secret at all
How ignorant and easily tricked are you anyway?

This program's details have been on the UN website since 2004
Bush announced the program after stopping Yemen terrorists in 2003
The Boston Globe ran a story showing you, how it was not top secret.

How did the Times do wrong, my printing a story of wide public knowledge, and to top it off V, the WSJ printed the story too, yet you don't say they broke the law???

Again, something the president announced in a press briefing and something on the UN website is hardly secret.

As far as me calling the phrase 'mega diddos" gay, calling something 'gay' is acceptable lingo,I said 'no offense to gays" , so I can watch hypocritical right wingers attack me, in a predictable fashion. I stand by what I say "it is gay" to shout mega dittos to Limbaugh. I support gay marriage BTW. You clowns support discrimination because Limbaugh and Hannity told you to. Who's the bigot, the one who calls 'mega dittos" a gay expression or the one who wants to activly discriminate against gays?
Answer obvious, to anyone but a brain dead ditto sheep

If you are so all-fired intelligent and omniscient, then start your own blog, get your own blogads, and Proclaim Your Wisdom From Olympus there - that way, you can stop cluttering up the threads here with your juvenile insults.

If you have something to say, say it. Leave off the insults, leave off the invective. It does no one here any good, it doesn't add anything new to the discussion because we've heard it all before, and the insults make everything else you may say look like a childish screed. Mmmmkay?
