Sam Seder, Janeane Garofalo, Majority Report

NOW WHAT?

Seder Nastiness, No Word On Janeane's Fate

Since our Friday morning report on Janeane Garofalo's possible termination from Air America, we've watched Air America Radio's corporate parent behave in an especially peculiar manner regarding her "Majority Report" program:

If there is one, AAR is saying nothing about Garofalo's future with the network. It sure looks as though she has exited. Why the secretive corporate behavior?

Co-host Sam Seder seems to have moved into an ongoing fill-in role for other hosts, including Al Franken this week. Is this it for Seder, or will he slide into a late- night position?

With a substitute host from San Diego, some vague form of the "Majority Report" is continuing, for now.

After initially dismissing our report out- of- hand, some "Majority Report" website posters are now conceding that something doesn't seem right.

What will happen next? We'll have to wait to find out.

Meanwhile, according to Tim Graham at NewsBusters, Seder has been a real jerk filling in for Franken this week:

Late in the show, he hosted the blogging artist known as Atrios, Duncan Black. Seder promised they would soon get into celebrating how Washington Post reporter Dana Priest "handed his ass" to Bill Bennett on "Meet the Press" Sunday, as we blogged yesterday.

Seder called Bennett a "bloviating gambling addict," but that charge wasn't wild enough. He then said Bennett's Book of Virtues left out the gambling, as well as "visiting a dominatrix when you're in Vegas as well," where Bennett allegedly had the dominatrix "do very, very strange odd things" to him.

Is there any proof? Seder joked it would be "irresponsible as a commentator not to comment on that."

Atrios/Black said the Dana Priest smackdown as a "thing of beauty" and they congratulated NBC's director for going to a two-shot of Priest and Bennett after she dropped the bomb.

  • On this great 4th of July, I thank Air America Radio for letting me hear the voices that I otherwise couldn't here over the severely restricted broadcast media. Over the past 2+ years, I have got a chance to listen to people from the alternative media such as Greg Palast and Amy Goodman, media critics such as Mark Crispin Miller and James Wolcott, historians such as Howard Zinn, grassroots people such as Cindy Sheehan, and a variety of bloggers such as Markos and Duncan.

A big PEACHES with streamers all around.

  • You're welcome to 'em.

  • I really enjoy Sam. I heard the first 2 hours of him hosting the Al Franken show today, and I'll listen to the last hour later tonight. (I love that Air America Premium).

Nice Picture of Sam's new book FUBAR. Great reviews of it on Amazon.com. I should be getting my copy in the mail later this week.

    Can't wait!

  • I think we found AA's four listeners! All in one place!

  • It's simple--REAL Americans hate those who hate this country. And ten times out of ten you'll find them on Hot Air America Radio.

HAPPY 4th of July to REAL Americans!

  • Good Riddance to Air America. I found listening to it boring and unfunny. However, I listened to Bill Bennet this week and I found listening to yahoos calling in to beat a dead horse on the issues tedious. I find Bennet a thoughtful and interesting conservative(annd misguided) but listening to Mary Sue the homemaker call in to the program to talk about awful the Democrats are is coolaid for the mind. On top of that it seems every two minutes they were cutting to commercials.

Thanks but I will stick to blog reading for the issues.

P.S. Brian, I hope your dream of Air Americas failure comes true soon so you can have a big party and wallow in victory.

  • The lefties are sure getting nastier as each and every one of their lies and delusions are debunked. ScareAmerica is circling the drain. Every candidate the Kos Klowns have backed have lost in the general election. Losers all. No wonder why they want to lose the war on terror.

  • I was not a big Sam Seder fan when he started. I found him a bit whiny, but I have to admit he is probably my favorite AAR host now. I heard him on Franken today and the first two hours of his show (all I heard, did not hear the Bennett comment) were the funniest two hours of radio I have heard in ages!

How true. I had heard that Sam did a freak-out turn and listened to it on the midnight rerun. He really nailed Sen. Ted from Alaska about the internet "tubes" thing.

The internet is not a truck!

  • RWW - Are you effing kidding us?

"Cowards, backing a war they will never serve, their children will never serve, and bashing people (like Sheehan) who's family did serve."

Cindy Sheehan deserves all the crap she gets thrust upon her, because she desecrates the memory of her son and what he stood for every time she opens her flyblown trap.

There's a reason Saint Cindy is getting a divorce. Source

There's a reason she isn't supported by military families - it is stunts like this.

Take some time out of your busy invective-spewing life and take a look at most of the milblogs, so you can see just how most folks in the military - and their families - feel about the mission in OIF and OEF.

To suggest that Cindy Sheehan "supports the troops" is an absolute outrage. The only thing she supports is her own hostility at the fact that her son decided, apparently against her wishes, to re-enlist in the Army, even though the war drums were beating. When he got to Iraq (as a mechanic), he VOLUNTEERED to go on missions that were outside the scope of his mission, and unfortunately paid the Ultimate Price. According to his sister, "That's all he wanted to do was serve God and his country his whole life." Source

Bash Cindy Sheehan? You betcha. Why? Because with her actions, as documented above, she has placed herself at odds with her son's wishes, with her family's wishes, and against the wishes of many military families, whose names she is using to promote her sick agenda.

Being "neoconservative" has nothing to do with it. Cindy Sheehan is scum, plain and simple, and she must be shouted down every time she tries to twist truth and facts to bend to her perceived notions.

    Evidently, RWW, as do you.

  • Firetruck!

  • Perhaps Sam Seder gets a laugh from some random idiot making the "samseder" posts here; it's a lot more charitable notion than that it's actually Sam Seder posting, I think. For that matter, I could believe the "samseder" posts are the output of a program; they certainly don't display humor, intelligence, or variety.

  • "I could leave radio tomorrow and would have reached more people in my two year career than you have in the twenty years you've been able to achieve nothing!"

I've seen your ratings. All anyone has to do to reach more people than you is to stroll by a water cooler with more than 8 people standing around it.

  • Sam Seder,

Maybe you can have some of your colleagues post here as well in order to give us information on the imminent demise of Air America?

Also the readers would like to know if you had sex with janine?

Lemme know if you need some more.

  • Congratulations Ohio -

You've earned yourself a "Loon" tag.

I was going to leave it at that but let's see if we can put things simply enough for you:

Yes the Government can say anything it wants at press conferences.

However, the press can print anything it wants about what was said at those press conferences.... including "The Government is lying" (See Mass Destruction, weapons of; Iraq) "the Government is covering things up "(see Phone taps; NSA) or "the Government is leaking secrets" (See Wilson ne Plame, Valerie).

Even better for the press, the government has some obligation to tell something like the truth, but the press has no such obligation (See phone records; USA Today)

  • "Is Helen Thomas threatening? Shes just an old lady who asks questions."

Which are all variations on "Why won't you admit this is your fault?" You're right, though, she is old and feeble.

By Blogger Jim Treacher, at 07 July, 2006 19:13

  • "Even better for the press, the government has some obligation to tell something like the truth, but the press has no such obligation (See phone records; USA Today)"

I would take that point one further - the 'government' has to subject itself to re-election every two, four or six years depending on the office.

Those who run the MSM outlets are not subject to election. Were that the case, then "Ohio"'s point would hold more water.
