TALK RADIO BLAMED

CAIR Extremists Claim Increase In Anti-Muslim Acts

Hateful acts against Muslims are up significantly over the last year, according to one extremist Islamist group, with talk radio largely to blame!

At the Washington Post, the Council on American- Islamic Relations (CAIR) is somehow apparently seen as a mainstream organization whose "statistics" can be considered reliable.

Try telling that to the talk hosts and others who have run afoul of the fringe group and its very aggressive lobbyists. CAIR has targeted talkers at ABC and Clear Channel stations over the past year, having an especially easy time mowing over executives at the former.

In fact, it's fair to say that CAIR monitors talk radio across the country, looking for anything it can use to fan the flames.

The ABC Radio flap, based on comments about Islam made by WMAL / Washington host Michael Graham, resulted in his termination. Earlier this year, top- rated morning host Bill Handel nearly lost his position at KFI / Los Angeles after a similar incident.

From the Washington Post's story:

Complaints of anti-Muslim harassment, violence and discriminatory treatment registered with a national Muslim civil rights group jumped 30 percent in 2005 from the previous year, the group said today in releasing its annual report .

The 1,972 complaints made to the Council on American-Islamic Relations are the most the group has received since it began the annual reports following anti-Muslim incidents after the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. The group said it actually received 2,300 reports but deemed some of them illegitimate.

The number of complaints has continually risen since 1995, but began spiking significantly in 2003, the report said. CAIR officials said the jump between 2004 and 2005 seems to be due to "a rise in anti-Muslim rhetoric fed by the Internet and also on talk radio," group spokesman Ibrahim Hooper said at a news conference. "You can't turn on the radio without hearing negative, bigoted comments about Islam."

The District and nine states, including Maryland and Virginia, accounted for 79 percent of complaints. These places also account for the highest population of Muslims, Hooper said.

Other than the overall tone of the piece, which suggests CAIR is mainstream, the hardest thing to believe is the idea that the group would dismiss any anti- Muslim complaints as illegitimate.

Here's a recent MSNBC clip featuring a CAIR spokesperson discussing Islamic anger over recent comments by the pope:

Does this seem like a group whose "statistics" can be trusted as coming from a neutral party? Doesn't CAIR have a dog in this fight? Don't be fooled, by the way, by the unusually calm tone this particular spokesman utilizes in this interview.

Next, watch for this story to make the rounds of news outlets across the country. How can this not be evidence of an actively pro- Islamist slant by the mainstream media?

  • What?

The hosts should speak their minds, and whoever wants to complain about it should complain.

  • The commercials on talk radio, which is mostly right wing, althought the commercials are about the same give a good indication who is listening. I would say going by the commercials basically people who life has passed by, people in debt, people with low urine stream, bad prostates, bad karmas, etc. I have to admit I slowly have become a talk radio addict and am probably experienceing the effects of it turning my mental processes into mush. I do think eventually someone is going to to have to realize that our system doesnt work well for anyone really and separation into different countries within the country could be a possibility.
