Keith Olbermann's Tax Troubles Grow Substantially

FIGHTING OLBER-CRIME

Once Again, Blogs Miles Ahead Of Mainstream Media

Stop us if you've heard this one before: high- profile liberal figures are in trouble over fishy finances or unpaid taxes and the mainstream media has to be dragged kicking and screaming into covering it. Yet again, blogs are the only reason why the public knows anything about the controversy.

Between Air America Radio's misuse of taxpayer funds to Al Franken's own tax mess, it's not hard to find past examples.

This time, it's the outstanding team over at Olbermann Watch doing the investigating and what a treasure trove they've uncovered!

Since last week, Robert Cox and his fellow researchers have discovered that MSNBC loudmouth Keith Olbermann has had serious issues with the tax man in New York City, the Empire State and California. Each new day brings further revelations, here's the latest:

As MSNBC Spins Fourth Warrant Surfaces - Tax Totals Now Close to $150,000

While MSNBC flacks spin Page Six with their non-denial denials, Olbermann Watch continues to unearth more outstanding judgements against Olbermann for delinquent taxes.

Olbermann Watch has now confirmed that in 2003 the New York City Finance Department socked Keith's "Empire" with a $46,055 judgement for failure to pay taxes to New York City. The judgement, since vacated, was filed on June 30, 2003.

This latest tax problem, the fourth to surface in as many days, shows Keith struggling to pay his taxes on time in either New York State, New York City or California for five of the past nine years: 2000, 2001, 2003, 2007 and 2008.

While blogs have been quick to jump on the story, the mainstream media has once again shown little interest. Today, however, the New York Post's Page Six did pick up a portion of it:

June 2, 2008 -- PROFESSIONAL angry person Keith Olbermann favors tax-and-spend liberals, but he didn't pay his own taxes. OlbermannWatch.com reports that New York state has issued a tax warrant or judgment against the MSNBC host for $2,269.50 in back taxes owed by his personal corporation, Olbermann Broadcasting Empire Inc.

Asked about the delinquency the other night by journalist Evan Gahr, the otherwise loquacious Olbermann uttered nary a word as he scurried into Trump Palace, where he bought condo apartment 40B last year, according to public records.

"This was a bookkeeping disagreement between Keith's accountants and the state which was resolved months ago," an MSNBC spokesman told Page Six. Gahr was surprised to see Olbermann on foot. "Is the belt-tightening so severe at NBC that the peacock network can't afford a car to take Olbermann home?" he wondered. "If so, there's a bright side for Olbermann: Nobody can call him a limousine liberal."

Beyond that, a Google News search reveals little in the way of additional MSM coverage. True to form, the New York Times so far hasn't written a word about it. Apparently, the Grey Lady has learned little from its high- profile avoidance of the Air America scandal.

Will they yet see fit to report the story? It's about as likely as Keith Olbermann giving himself the Worst Person in the World award.

  • It just keeps getting better and better.

First it was Air America Radio's financial mess with the Boys and Girls Club,

then Stuart Smalley's problem with the Feds over his failure to pay for his employees' Workman's Comp Insurance,

then Franken's problem not paying taxes to 17 states,

    and now Olbermann - sweet!

  • Some friction between NBC and MSNBC:

Tim Russert has spent 20 Years building credibility and all Of A Sudden he has to take question from Olbermann - a Daily Kos Blogger?

"The key is his willingness to quit. And he means it. He has convinced management of that. They are convinced that he will walk. He behaves like a man who has nothing left to lose. He is not central to MSNBC, he is the center of the MSNBC ratings strategy. We hang the entire schedule on him." said an MSNBC inside source.

  • Couldn't have happened to a bigger hypocrite. Maybe the I.R.S. will put him & his fellow loser Al Franken in a cell together. It's time for the I.R.S. to start looking at other wealthy Liberals who love to advocate the government raising taxes, then don't pay them themselves. Liberals are a cancer killing this country.

  • There is something, sad, pathetic and ironic that one person questions how tough someone else is, after telling them they will use a gun to "fill your body up with .44 caliber pieces of lead."

    OK tough guy.

PS, with numbers tanking by the day, and BoR's surging, I await the century when Olbermann's numbers are better then anyone on Fox.
