In his latest column, Bill O'Reilly wonders if Oprah knows what she's getting into by hiring Rosie O'Donnell as a daytime TV host. Joining the fray, Donald Trump has even stronger views here.
Though their concerns seem absolutely on the mark, the truth may be far more disturbing: O'Donnell and Winfrey might be more in sync than previously understood.
During Friday's satellite-based Rosie Radio program, for example, O'Donnell featured one of Oprah's favorite interview subjects, New Age philosopher Byron Katie (interesting post-hire timing here).
Though considered by some to be a quasi-cult leader, Katie's views (known to her followers as The Work) have been presented by both hosts as mainstream. Oprah also featured Katie in the April 2010 edition of her magazine, as highlighted at the latter's own website.
For $5000 or more, participants in Katie's nine-day seminars are subjected to harsh tactics one participant later called 'voluntary exploitation'.
Whether there to help Rosie score points with the Big O or provide life-changing guidance, Katie seemed to bring out her absolute worst, with this breathtaking revelation the result: "when the oil spill happened, I thought to myself, 'Will I survive this?'"

This incident should provide a starting point for further examination of the price of admission into Oprah's club. Does it require an adherence to Winfrey's belief system, however distant from the mainstream that might be? Or was Rosie already there?
Is it possible that Oprah knew EXACTLY what she was getting in hiring O'Donnell? If so, the continuing expansion of the former's media empire (into a new network called OWN) should be considered that much more disturbing.

Rosie O'Donnell is a fringe player at best. She is way out of the mainstream with her opinions, & offends the mainstream with how in your face she is with them. Outside of Manhattan, the Bay Area, Hollywood, & some gender studies students in colleges, Rosie has almost no audienece. The MSM does'nt understand that, & treats her like she still matters. But she does'nt.

If she's worried about the oil spill, she can simply beach herself, and some workers will come along and continue to splash water on her so she doesn't dry too much. Maybe later they'll try to roll her back into the water, or even make her a feature attraction at some aquarium...though I'm not sure there's a tank large enough for her.
