Libtalkers, Bloggers Further Push Spitzer Conspiracy Theory

IT'S A CON-SPIT-ACY

Rhodes, Bloggers, Push Bush Link To Eliot's Downfall

Determined to make lemonade out of their partisan lemons, a fast- growing group of libtalkers, bloggers, feminists, San Francisco media types and other assorted kooks are pushing a theory that fallen New York Governor Eliot Spitzer was somehow "set up" by the Bush Administration.

It proves once again that liberals are not about to allow Spitzer's self- destruction hurt their party's chances in November.

Though certainly not alone with her assessment of the true motives behind Spitzer's troubles, libtalker Randi Rhodes delivered a typically over- the- top analysis of the situation at the beginning of Wednesday's show:

RHODES: The more you look at this the more you understand this man was set up. Now now, wait, I know I just said that. He was easier to set up then Lincoln logs. He was easier to set up then a Christmas train set, which is difficult.

This was easy. This was no I I mean he admitted that he did this thing. But the idea that the guy who ran the escort service that caused Eliot Spitzer to get caught that this man was an enrolled IRS agent running an escort service and it was the IRS who became suspicious because of money transfer is so on its face a set up, it’s unbelievable. However, you know he did do it, there’s no question. He did it.

This follows a series of "progressive" blog posts that made the Bush "connection", whether the president's name was used or not. Firedoglake provided early examples, while Harper's took the rhetoric much, much further:

However, there is a second tier of questions that needs to be examined with respect to the Spitzer case. They go to prosecutorial motivation and direction. Note that this prosecution was managed with staffers from the Public Integrity Section at the Department of Justice. This section is now at the center of a major scandal concerning politically directed prosecutions.

During the Bush Administration, his Justice Department has opened 5.6 cases against Democrats for every one involving a Republican. Beyond this, a number of the cases seem to have been tied closely to election cycles. Indeed, a study of the cases out of Alabama shows clearly that even cases opened against Republicans are in fact only part of a broader pattern of going after Democrats.

On Wednesday's show, Rush Limbaugh noticed this example from the San Francisco Chronicle, featuring feminist Naomi Wolf:

"Everybody is missing the larger point in this story," said Naomi Wolf, author of "The Beauty Myth" and last year's "The End of America."

Wolf said the investigation of Spitzer - done with the help of federally ordered wiretaps - shows how easy it is for the government to take down its political enemies through expanded domestic surveillance. Wolf, in thoughts echoed throughout the liberal blogosphere, believes the Republican-led Bush administration and Justice Department were no fans of Spitzer, who could be an aggressive politician and prosecutor.

"This is the scandal," Wolf said. As for how spouses behave during these crises, "it's none of our business. Absolutely none of us can know how we'd react in that situation or judge others."

When the left resorts to pathetic conspiracy- mongering, you know they're worried sick about how the downfall of a high- profile partisan might hurt their movement. You can bet your Zapruders they aren't going to give up on this idea anytime soon.

  • Naomi Wolf is a freakin 9-11 Troofer dingbat.

Why anyone listens to her about anything is beyond me.

By Blogger Good Lieutenant, at 12 March, 2008 23:59

  • Obviously, Randi Rhodes is still recovering from her self inflicted blow to the head incurred during her recent pub crawl. Then again, perhaps she should try again, say from some penthouse bar?.

  • Wayne Barret was peddling the same deranged conspiracy theories on WNYC yesterday. The man is absolutely certifiable. You could almost sense Brian Lehrer thinking to himself, "are you f**ckin' serious,' but his paralyzing politeness prevented him from expressing that thought.

Anyway, why is anyone surprised to see leftist nutjobs acting in their customarily paranoid, delusional fashion?

  • will the BDS ( Bush Derangement Syndrome) never end? Next they will blame President Bush for Geraldine Ferraro's stupid comments.

  • We had the same sort of paranoia published yesterday in the Rocky Mountain News. Here's my take with a link to the article in it:

Great work here these past years. You should be proud.

  • well, at least there is a connection, unlike the Bill clinton murdered 2 teenagers thing that the wing nuts talked about for 4 months in the 90's

I doubt anyone is worried about Spitzer costing them an election, it's not as if Spitzer is synomanous with the Democratic party, he's not exactly their spokesperson, of course logic is never factored into this wing nut blog. Brian will a anthing for a quick post, sadly for Maloney, HACK is synomanous with Maloney.

Anyone remember Gonzo? You wing nuts have such short memory, he resigned because he was caught firing laywers not partaking in political assinations, come on hacks, you can't forget that one??

again logic escapes the simpleton wing nut......

If Alberto Gonzales and the GOP were never involved with a PROVEN scandal, nobody would think twice that there could be something behind this, I doubt it

byt Alberto Gozales is the exact reason WHY people are connecting Bush, NOBODY TRUSTS BUSH , remember he has a 30% approval rating, most of this country does not trust bush, wingnuts do trust Bush, to the tune of a 70% approval rating. They would trust Ted bundy if he was an elected Republican

and wing nuts wonder why the nation mocks them......

but you wing nuts forgot about Gonzo already. Brian your a certified hack, dishonest: every step of the way.

this is not hard, realy it isn't.
i get it, i have no loyalty to the Democratic party, you can get it to.. not hard, do you have short term memory loss? it was only a year ago

Nobody trusts the GOP, not just lib hosts, 70% of the country... do you get it yet? As bad as the Democratic party is, there is no movement, this is simple; America rejected the GOP, nobody trusts the GOP. This does not mean the Democrats are popular, simply means the GOP is hated by America.
You just can't grasp it, can you?
You lie, you cheat, you screw the economy, America will reject you.
The Dems could run Spitzer for president he would win at this point.

Hooker-Gate will not effect anything, after all he RESIGNED, a Republican would deny deny deny, refuse to step down and eventually wind up in jail, like so many wing nuttttttts have. The GOP has ZERO integrity, we all get it, as hard as you try Spitzer will not cause a surge of new Republican voters, our empty wallets will continue to cause a flood of Democratic voters.

    Get a life

the 800# "get of of bankruptcy commercials", will still be paying the bills of wing nut hosts everywhere, the soothing sounds of Limbaugh will still ease your aching head everything will be fine wingggg nuttts. America will vote for a "slightly" (note, rational Americans do not take party over country) better future than we have now, and Limbaigh will still be there to give you a fantasy world 24/7. Stay tuned, there will be plenty of sexual-enhancement pills for you to buy. Support the show!

meanwhile most N.Y'ers are happy, we now have a better gov., that that hard ass, guiliani-like Spitz

Let me refresh his memory on all the democrats he absent-mindedly forget to include.

  • The liberal media is SO dumb!!!! They don't get it! They never will! DUMB!! DUMB!!

I listened to DR. Laura with my mother until she passed away. She listened up to the very end and told me DR. Laura would be there for me when she couldnt. I owe my sucessful marrage to DR. Laura. I'd never be like that Silda or the hooker. They are a disgrace to womanhood. I hate everyone who is ruining our country by destroying families. It is evil.

Be sure to tell DR. Laura the real women get it.

  • MOP--well, at least there is a connection, unlike the Bill clinton murdered 2 teenagers thing that the wing nuts talked about for 4 months in the 90's

REPLY--What??!?!? Never heard that one - ( I swear I never did). You are already reaching.

MOP--doubt anyone is worried about Spitzer costing them an election, it's not as if Spitzer is synomanous with the Democratic party, he's not exactly their spokesperson

REPLY--Uh, yeah he was. Dems were annointing him as the heir apparent of the dem party (NY Governor, kick's ass and takes names - by the way, did you ever hear of the Martin Act - check it out - it exists in New York and it was Spitzer's weapon of choice - one other thing, what is his record for actually "nailing somebody" (I mean guilty verdicts of corrupt businessmen, not hookers)

MOP--Anyone remember Gonzo? You wing nuts have such short memory, he resigned because he was caught firing laywers not partaking in political assinations

REPLY--Gonzo fired like a dozen lawyers who serve at the President's leisure. Clinton fired all 93 within weeks of taking office. That's like being fired while you're still interviewing for the position!! Additionally, Bush kept on the majority of Clinton Attorneys. There is a possibility, albeit slight, that some of these US Attorneys were not doing their jobs because they were beholden to a certain democrat.

MOP--NOBODY TRUSTS BUSH , remember he has a 30% approval rating

REPLY--BUSH Approval rating 33% (it sure is low - you are right -but a lame duck prez with 10 months to go? - big friggin' deal.)
CONGRESS Approval rating 22% (wow, even lower - now who controls congress?)

MOP--i have no loyalty to the Democratic party

REPLY--That's because they are not marxist enough for you.

MOP--You lie, you cheat, you screw the economy

REPLY--Lie, cheat, screw? sounds like another US President.

MOP--Hooker-Gate will not effect anything, after all he RESIGNED, a Republican would deny deny deny, refuse to step down and eventually wind up in jail, like so many wing nuttttttts have

REPLY--Please name the Republicans who have denied, denied, denied and please show me who has stood up for the ones that actually did do something wrong. And please remember that indictments and guilty verdicts are two differnet things. By the way, that is the wonderful thing of american jurisprudence - you can sue or charge anybody with anything at anytime. You really need to look into the Martin Act (just a little write up about it below - and yes, while it talks about Enron, Worldcom, and others, please note that while those were prosecuted in 2001, the majority of their misconduct and gross negligence and shear greed that resulted in their sentences and guilty verdicts were the result of actions they undertook in the nineties)

MOP--there will be plenty of sexual-enhancement pills for you to buy. Support the show!

REPLY--Never been an issue for me, but for those that might suffer from that affliction, wow, what a sensitive person you are.

To wrap you up MOP -- you hate anybody that disagrees with you, regardless of facts. You clearly hate republicans. And you clearly love to revel in the delight of some yahoo who can't get it up. Wow,you would be a great dinner guest

  • Don't be so mean to the Minister. He has an internet radio show that's listened to by as many people who leave messages on his blog. I hope for his sake he's a fast typist, otherwise he's spending all day being a troll. Being a young 20-something with a degree and an entry-level office job must be humiliating.

well Emerson self-deprecation is a start, come to grips with your neo-conservatism; realize your ideology is an enemy of the 95%ers who work for a living and move on. You can be a Jewish Republican and reject the failed imperialistic doctrine oflaizze-faire "invisible hand" conservatism.... and fight for something important, like the working class in America.

I'm in my mid 30's BTW, and the radio show has listenership in the teens! We are live and podcasted as well. Try listening, you might learn something. Consider our show the world's only shock-jock socialists.
