Tucker Carlson, Jerry Springer, Dancing With The Stars

WILL THIS WORK?

For Talkers, 'Dancing' Could Help Or Hurt Careers

Learning that both Jerry Springer and Tucker Carlson would appear on ABC-TV's Dancing With The Stars for the upcoming season has the Radio Equalizer curious: is this little more than a desperate career stunt for two talkers on increasingly shaky ground?

In addition, is joining Dancing merely the primetime equivalent of becoming a Hollywood Squares regular?

Or, could MSNBC's Carlson and Air America's Springer (also known as the Mayor Of Hell) benefit from being discovered by viewer demographic groups previously unfamiliar with the two?

Since we've picked on both the mildly conservative Carlson and his liberal counterpart Springer plenty in the past, perhaps they should get the benefit of the doubt here.

While Tucker faces a shaky future at the ratings- challenged MSNBC, Springer's tenure at the "progressive" Air America Radio network seems to be winding down.

From CNN:

NEW YORK (AP) -- Talk- show hosts Jerry Springer and conserv- ative Tucker Carlson of MSNBC will be among the celebrities competing on the third season of ABC television's "Dancing With the Stars."

The new season of the show -- which pairs 11 competitors of sometimes dubious celebrity and varying skill with professional dancer-partners -- premieres Sept. 12, the network announced Monday.

Also heading to the dance floor: Vivica A. Fox, Harry Hamlin, Joe Lawrence, Mario Lopez, Sara Evans, Willa Ford, Monique Coleman, former beauty queen Shanna Moakler and three-time Super Bowl champion Emmitt Smith. Hamlin's wife, Lisa Rinna, competed last season.

This season, the celebrity and professional dance pairs will perform choreographed Latin and traditional ballroom routines to popular live music.

For Springer and Carlson, is this really a good career move? Leave a comment in the section below.

  • Springer and Carlson on Dancing with the Stars.

    The million dollar question:
    Which one will lead?

Here are a few ettiquette tips to both of them.

The "lady" should bear in mind the "dancer friendliness" of her attire. Beaded sleeves that swipe his partner's faces, snagging fabrics, long trains etc. should be avoided at all costs. The "gentleman" should always close his jacket before dancing. Personal oral and bodily hygiene is of utmost importance. If Springer or Carlson is hesitant to get into the proper ballroom hold, or is holding his breath, or bolts from the dance floor once the dance is over and refuses to dance again, the partner should take the hint.

  • "The equilvalent of Hollywood Squares. I am laughing my ass off on that one, Brian. For these two insufferables, that is a just reward."

Ah, but here's a bit of irony, the host of Dancing with the Stars is Tom Bergeron, most recent host of Hollywood Squares--which had uber-lib black Whoopi Goldberg for a few seasons.

By the way, no host can touch Peter Marshall--THE Master of The Hollywood Squares.

Dancing with The Stars--for its success, it's just a sign that there is desperation in television! Anyone remember Dance Fever???

  • Somehow it seems to me that this comparison is more an insult to Hollywood Squares than anything else.

  • Hey Brainless Baloney,

Got any crumbs lately from O'Reilly and Malkin?

Felafel O'Reilly probably wouldn't look twice at you if wasn't for Ms. Concentration Camp.

  • Ms Concentraion Camp?

You people sure know how to really bother the living hell out of those who want this country safe? Try saying it to her face!

  • I got the same tripe from "Patriot" (giggle) last week when I challenged more lies from the "Schlussel-Gelt" trollop.

I wouldn't call Springer a perfect match for talk radio, but compare his performance to some of the second-stringers on neocon radio!

    Take WABC, for instance.

John Gambling? Another Islamophobic shill gone to rot (that's one war-mongering Quaker!)

Curtis Sliwa? Mr. "Hey-Yo-I'm-From-Canarsie" has been practically in tears over the Lebanon invasion and spends more time playing victim over his organized-crime problems. Not evolving much past his roots.

Mark Levin? Please...why not have him broadcast remote from the Shin Bet's headquarters?

Batchelor? May be the smoothest, slickest liar that ever graced New York's airwaves (and THAT'S a task)...

The recently departed Andrew Wilkow was the self-proclaimed "undisputed new school of talk radio"...till his views got challenged a few times and he did a virtual meltdown without any snappy comebacks....on his last day before going over to Sirius, revealed he'd been engaged to the program director's daughter...so much for undisputed nepotism.

Air America has it's faults, but don't they pale in comparison to this crew of incompentents, well-financed and government-supported as they are?
