LA CUCA STUNTA
Shock Jocks Succeed In Gaining Attention
Proving just how easy it can be to raise the ire of advocacy groups for fun and profit, a pair of New Jersey- based shock jocks are under fire over a headline- generating stunt.
After Hispanic activist organizations learned of "La Cuca Gotcha", a campaign cooked up by New Jersey 101.5 jocks Craig Carton and Ray Rossi (known as the "Jersey Guys"), they quickly denounced the pair.
"La Cuca Gotcha" encourages listeners to report suspected illegal aliens to either the station or federal authorities.
New Jersey 101.5 is a highly- rated non- political FM talk station catering to younger listeners.
From NorthJersey.com:
While your Radio Equalizer supports immigration reform, including a far- reaching crackdown on illegal aliens, cheap stunts by semiliterate FM shock jocks only undermines this cause.
And if it didn't generate free press coverage, these guys wouldn't spend two minutes dealing with the issue.
So why write about it here? Your Radio Equalizer believes it is important to distance legitimate efforts to reform immigration from these childish antics.

Hispanics steamed by shock radio stunt

Hispanic political and community leaders are up in arms over a New Jersey radio show that is exhorting listeners to report suspected illegal immigrants to 101.5 FM or federal authorities.
The leaders say the radio station's campaign -- named "La Cuca Gotcha" -- is clearly anti-Hispanic and may encourage racial profiling and other bias incidents against Hispanics.
"It's a despicable campaign and clearly slanted at Hispanics," said Assemblyman Wilfredo Caraballo. "The campaign describes us as bugs that have to be stamped out."
Hispanics, including some from North Jersey, are demanding that the station end the on-air campaign, and that the hosts -- Craig Carton and Ray Rossi, aka "The Jersey Guys" -- apologize publicly to New Jersey's Hispanics.
Carton, who along with Rossi has been mired in other controversies, said the campaign is not anti-Hispanic and that they want listeners to help authorities track down illegal immigrants "of any origin."
Caraballo, a Democrat, said the campaign "encourages a vigilante movement against illegal immigrants, or people who look different."
Hispanic leaders plan to voice their concerns at a news conference today at Caraballo's district office in Newark.
Caraballo said he plans to obtain a list of the show's sponsors and ask Hispanics to boycott their products if the hosts don't apologize and end the campaign.
In a letter he wrote to the station, Caraballo said the campaign uses a slogan -- "La Cuca Gotcha" -- that "insults the Hispanic community through a play on the Spanish word for cockroach – "cucaracha."
In an e-mail to The Record, Carton said the campaign focuses on a valid concern – illegal immigration – and encourages listeners to help through legitimate channels.
"Any suggestion that this is motivated by racism is a crock and offensive," he said. "We have never condoned any type of violence or other immoral act against illegal immigrants. We have nothing against Hispanics at all and have never suggested that the only illegal immigrants in New Jersey are Hispanic."
Carton also dismissed speculation among Hispanic leaders that the campaign was a ratings ploy. "I don't need any more attention nor help with the ratings," Carton said of the well-known show.

First John & Ken, now these two jerks. New Jersey sure incuates "jerk jocks".
By PCD, at 22 March, 2007 14:47
incorrect on several counts
firstly, 101.5 FM does not really cater to a young audience, unless you define "young" as under fifty-five
secondly, several new jersey towns have reached absolute saturation point, as illegal day laborers jump out into the roadway to pick up rides and work...in front of citizens trying to drive to their legal jobs
because of the failure of (mostly republican) township officials who have issued stand-down orders to local authorities in terms of enforcement of existing laws, in accordance with the hypocritical bush crime family's long-term goals of supplanting the middle class with cheap workers, and creating a slave class
and aided and abetted by many activist and faith-based orgs on both the left and right, many of which are well-meaning but misguided in intention
the situation has reached critical mass in some towns, with added spikes in violent crime, drunkenness, soliciting of prostitution, on the part of many illegals, and all that tends to bring
this is a case of talk radio culture responding to an spiraling crisis in new jersey life, and responding to it

sensing a pattern:
get called on far-too-obvious ass-kissing (this time, with double the kissing and double the asses...well, rush' bigun more than balances what would (hopefully for her size) Michelle's small one - but I degress much too far)...
Then, post ho-hum story that virtually no one gives a damn about
then, bash franken with unrelated topics to keep name high on list of "friends" O'reilly & Malkin...
wash, rinse, repeat

Hash,
You can take most of your post change the party to Democrat and the location to California, Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico, and have the same validity.
Now how does being a jerk help the situation when Illegals are allowed by party hacks to stay in this country.
I'm not for amnesty or any leaving them in place programs.
The Chinese say a journey of a 1000 miles begins with a single step. A fence, closed borders, the army on the border, and deporting illegal aliens are all single steps.
By PCD, at 23 March, 2007 10:37
well it helps
in that it shows our fool politicos
that vast majorities of ALL people
are opposed to open borders
and support added stringencies
for illegals
you know, your fattest-cat neocon
may indeed think "america" needs 'em
may even like the low wages they pay
but it's a different story
when the main street of his sleepy suburban hamlet
is infested with a hundred illegals
hurling beer bottles and urinating
it IS that bad in some places
it's been that way in other places
for a while now
jersey rethugs need to get their act together, demand a buchanan, a paul
i held my nose and voted for forrester
because corzine was unacceptable
but republicans refuse to be for america, and americans only
it's about worship of an ideal that has only an r after it
and they'll continue to get screwed over by their own for it
these guys at 101.5 instinctively understand what's unraveling
in a way outsiders don't get

I don't know who appointed Brian Mahoney as a radio "equalizer', but I have to disagree with the protests here.
WHY IS EVERYONE SO DAMNED SENSITIVE these days?? Carton & Rossi originally were naming this "RAT-A-RAT." I believe they left it up to the listeners to name it what it was finally called.
The ONLY people who heard of La Cuca Gotcha" were listenners of 101.5's afternin show, These people KNOW that Carton & Rossie were NOT trying to out just (insert whatever ethinic group's feelings got hurt this time here).
The specifically sai they don't care if the ILLEGALS (Get that word??--ILLEGALS--were from China, Turkey, Madrid...ANYWHERE, the fact is they are here ILLEGALLY.
Congratulations for bring this "operation" BACK into the public eye. You guys are a bit late; they started it quite some time ago and weren't mentioning it much any more!
LISTEN to the show before you all start bitching.

LET ME START WITH THIS. I ONLY KNOW WHAT I HAVE SEEN.
IMMIGRANTS WHO TAKE JOBS THAT CITIZENS DONT WANT... THIS DOES AMOUNT TO SOME INTERPETATION OF SLAVERY. SO IF THEY PAID WELL THEN CITIZENS MIGHT TAKE THEM.
IMMIGRANTS WHO SNUCK INTO OUR COUNTRY SHOULD BE TREATED AS IF THEY HAVE BROKEN IN TO OUR 'HOME"...NONE OF THE SAME RIGHTS AS A CITIZEN...NO 'FREE' HEALTH CARE OR 'WELFARE' WE SHOULD NOT PAY FOR THEIR INCARCERATION, JUST BILL THEIR COUNTRY FOR OUR TROUBLE. BY THE WAY, 'FREE' HEALTH CARE IS FUNDED BY THOSE CITIZENS WHO PAY THEIR TAXES/BILLS...SO IS IT REALLY 'FREE'....? IF ILLEGALS/LATINOS/ANY IMMIGRANT WHO IS NOT A CITIZEN AND IS HERE ILLEGALLY IS INSULTED, THEN GO BACK TO THE COUNTRY YOU CAME FROM AND TRY TO CHANGE THE ISSUES THERE. DON'T COME HERE AND CLOUD THE ISSUE BY PULLING ON OUR HEART STRINGS. LISTEN I FEEL FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE THESE ISSUES...MAYBE YOU SEE A ROACH AS A BAD THING, IT IS ALSO A HARD THING TO GET RID OF...SO TAKE THAT ANGER YOU FEEL TOWARD THIS AND USE IT TO 'GET RID OF' THE PROBLEMS WHERE YOU ARE FROM SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO ESCAPE TO OUR COUNTRY ILLEGALLY AND BURDEN US. AND I DONT KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS...BUT
IF AN ILLEGAL GIVES BIRTH IN THE UNITED STATES, AND THEY ARE NOT HERE ON A WORK VISA OR ANYTHING THAT HAS GIVEN THEM PERMISSION TO BE HERE, THEN IS THAT CHILD A UNITED STATES CITIZEN? EVEN IF THE BIOLOGICAL PARENTS OF THAT CHILD ARE ILLEGALS? THAT WOULD BE ANOTHER ISSUE I HAVE...IM A UNITED STATES CITIZEN WHO IS IN A WHEELCHAIR. I CANT EVEN GET INTO MY LOCAL COURT HOUSE EASILY AND SHOPPING IN A STORE, ESPECIALLY AROUND THE HOLIDAYS, IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE, SO WHY IN THE 'HADES' WOULD AN ILLEGAL HAVE THE RIGHT TO ANYTHING IN THE UNITED STATES IF I CANT EVEN HAVE MY RIGHTS/ABILITIES FIRST?
GOD BLESS EVERYONE INVOLVED....
AND 'SHOCK JOCKS' KEEP ON SHOCKING...THIS IS A GOOD ISSUE TO KEEP SOMEONES FEET TO THE FIRE OVER.
WISH SOMEONE HERE IN YOUNGSTOWN OHIO HAD THE 'BALLS' TO STEP UP.

Being an American has lots of advantages like school. The only reason why some Americans take low paid jobs is because they did not do well in school. So I do not understand the problem, with immigrants since they take those low paid jobs, unless you did not work hard and sat on your ass during school. There is such thins as loans and scholarships?
Hatred,
Names that burn like fire.
Ridicule and ignorance, closed minds.
Refusal to accept and understand.
People are people and have feelings.
People are people Just like you!
Oh by the way if I am 18 and I feel people that are accepting can not move forward and that’s why America s country can not move forward.

"Immigration reform" is usually a euphemism for a massive amnesty, so if you mean that as something else I'd suggest specifying that.
What's actually needed is "political and media reform". The reason why there are so many illegal aliens here is because our politicians refuse to do their jobs. They need to be exposed, and the people who can do that are the media. Unfortunately, the media has its own issues, and corrupt "journalists" need to be exposed. Bloggers can help with that.
I agree this is a stupid stunt, but it isn't like the ones that John and Ken engage in. There's a difference between supporting turning in people who might not be illegal aliens and, for instance, J&K's toilet brush campaign. The goal with the latter was to point out that "Mayor Reconquista" (L.A.'s mayor) is an illegal immigration-supporting idiot.
By LonewackoDotCom, at 26 March, 2007 03:41
Lonewacko,
I knew the mayor of LA was a MeCHa member long before "Joke and Kliche" stumbled upon that fact. I was in CA long before J&K replaced Tom Leykis on KFI. It took Joke years to get beyond his frozen cheese piroges to see the political landscape.
Oh, does Joke still consult pet psychics to understand why his cat poops on the green carpet in his house?
