DRUNKEN LAWMAKING?

CA Senator's Teen Booze Grandstanding

As much as industry professionals like to complain about the theoretical inaccuracy of Arbitron ratings, in radio, we unfortunately live and die by them.

Does that mean, however, that lawmakers should utilize the data for purposes of establishing public policy?

In my latest Inside Radio column, find out why grandstanding California State Senator Carole Migden (D-San Francisco) thinks Arbitron should guide what your children hear on the radio.

How is the broadcast industry responding?

And at least one outspoken winemaker thinks Migden's been drinking too much of the cheap stuff (hint: it's pink and comes in a box).

As to why lobbyists are still legitimately needed, Migden's recent hypocritical antics provide a necessary post-Abramoff reality check.

Just remember to hold your nose when you're hiring one.
