Jay Severin, WTKK-FM

CRIME PAYS!

Severino Finally Moves to MA, Buys Pricey Estate

Fresh from signing his multi- million dollar deal to return to the Boston airwaves, serial liar / faker Jay Severin (real name: Jimmy Severino) has purchased a $2.2 million mansion in Manchester- By- The- Sea, Massachusetts. (Thanks to Boston Radio Watch for the tip)

Crime, at least of a journalistic nature, sure does pay!

At least this time, we'll know that the WTKK-FM afternoon talker really lives in Massachusetts, rather than faking it while actually residing in Sag Harbor, New York. With a 7000 square foot compound, there will be plenty of room to display his fake Pulitzer Prize.

For now, at least, the former MSNBC panelist's return to afternoon drive in Boston has been a dud, with almost no buzz about his show. That's a distinct difference from his last stint in the area, when he beat rival Howie Carr in the local drivetime ratings.

But a great deal of momentum was lost during his year- long daytime absence, which allowed Carr to surge ahead. Though Howie lost some listener credibility for frequently (and quite unfairly) slamming now- former GOP gubernatorial candidate Kerry Healey as "Muffy" during the campaign, he holds all of the cards at this point, with Severin barely a footnote. During this year's election contests, Severin was almost entirely ignored.

In addition, most of the revelations regarding Severin's suspect behavior came as he was on his way out the door, so his "return" has been accompanied by a lot of heavy baggage.

Said to make a million a year, very high for a shrinking region like Greater Boston (now ranked #11 and no longer considered a major radio market), Severin had better figure out a way to quickly get back on top, or his employer is going to get soaked on this pricey deal.

From the Boston Globe:

Talk radio guy Jay Severin, who returned to Boston's WTKK (96.9 FM) airwaves last month, and his wife, Renee, bought a 7,624-square-foot mansion on Highland Avenue in Manchester-by-the-Sea for $2.2 million from Catherine A. Hull. The house, which county records say has 17 rooms, eight bedrooms, and 5 1/2 baths, is on nearly 5 1/2 acres.

From Manchester- By- The- Sea (did they steal that tag from Carmel?) town records:

Property ID 26 0 17
Address 17 HIGHLAND AV
Owner HULL HARRY
Acres 5.41 acres
Lot Size 235,794 ft2
Building Style MANSION
Year Built 1889
Building Value $1,439,300.00
Sale Price $0.00
Final Value $2,078,300.00
LandUse 109

Memo to aspiring talk hosts out there: dishonesty pays! The more you trick your audience, the more you'll make! For best results, make sure your on- air fish tales are true whoppers. That way, you too can someday live in Manchester- By- The- Sea!

  • Manchester-by-the-Sea claims that the expanded name helps people to NOT confuse them with the Manchesters in the other 5 New England states, but it
also makes them sound more fancy-
    schmancy.

Highland Ave. is right near the
    Beverly/MBTS border with the ocean
and some private schools nearby. Excuse me sir would you have any
    Grey Poupon?

  • It's a beautiful house that needs TONS of work. I can say that already MBTS is reeling over Severin moving here. Word around town is that he is that he musn't truly be an asshole, "he only plays one on the radio."

Regarding the name, "Manchester-by-the-Sea" it was named that in the 1870's but regained popularity again recently. I run a website, which uses state databases and in most cases regarding access to voter records and initiative petition databases, one must enter the full "Manchester-by-the-Sea" as entering just "Manchester" will yield nothing.

  • Jay,

This nation produces politicians, who become rich and live off of all of us. They get to many perks, to much money, and a ridculous retirement.

  • Wow, it appears that a bunch of angry little people really don't like Jay Severin. Class warfare at its finest. Too funny

  • Wow, where did all this hatred come from. Personally, I wish I could listen to Severin as well as Imus on a station that didn't get stepped on by the oldies station up here in "New Hampshire by the Sea"

  • Ain't there enough republican shills & right wing tools on the radio. All these tools are responsible for *ing up this country big time ... Furthermore the guy reminds me of that draft dodging Chickenhawk ted nugent ... beady beady eyed rodents.

  • i have to agree with you, cerebrus. no matter what jay's personality is on air, his intellect and knowledge base, extensive vocabulary and the manner in which he articulates his POV, leaves the listeners' minds tooling for hours. the only thing i object to is his distasteful and obvious adoration of women's anatomy, but he does attempt to balance it out with paying respect to his women callers. i wrote a comment to him yesterday (which was not published as yet) telling him why i object to that aspect of his persona (i'm hypersensitive to it because i have breast cancer and now have no more breasts for any man to admire). i know he's not an insensitive man to such things. he's playful, witty, and just being a man. i highly respect him for what he stands for in the political arena. other than that, i don't really know anything else about him. i do know that he was influenced by the same people i hold in high esteem, i.e., william f. buckley, george will, etc., probably others we would have in common. i know jay has influenced my political thinking more than most broadcast journalists. angelina

  • What's worse, he has a wife, and a little girl how embarrassed is she, or possibly they. Jay is a very smart thoughtful guy, but he has one thing and one thing only in mind, and that;s to enrich himself using controversy. He kind of reminds me of Morton Downey (remember that loud mouth predecessor to Jerry Springer?)
Even more amusing is his use of the "best and the brightest", the clear implication being that only the smart people listen to Jay...what a joke.I listen because it's like an accident on the highway...I have to slow down and look...

  • Jay us still spewing his hatred of equality and anything remotely democratic. Who owns WTKK? BIG OIL? He's a dangerous educated ultra conservative radical. William F. Buckley best characterizes his personae in a quote...."Conservatives pride themselves on resisting change, which is as it should be. But intelligent deference to tradition and stability can evolve into intellectual sloth and moral fanaticism, as when conservatives simply decline to look up from dogma because the effort to raise their heads and reconsider is too great". Source - The November Coalition. I hope he contracts chronic infinite laryngitis These days it seems he's trying to create a cultural revolution. What an effing lunatic jay is!!!!

  • Jay is awesome and I listen to a lot of talk radio and political TV.
Who are these idiots making these comments here?
    I guess the truth hurt.
Rock on Jay!!! Don't let these losers let you skip a beat.

  • Unbelievable! I guess the liberals have long since dropped the clandestine class envy. Now that 96.7 in NH has gone to all talk, the only thing we miss up here is Jay Severin.

Speaking of class envy, what about the millionair executives that now comprise Obama's closest advisors. Odd though, how they work so hard for The United States to be a part of a European Federalist association.

  • I think jay is awesome. I didnt know alot about politics until I listened to him. wish he was my teacher I would have learned alot. your awesome!

  • Hate-monger Jay Severin apparently isn't the financial genius he would like his listeners to believe. According to public records at the Essex County Registry of Deeds (available for free on-line) he has 2 mortgages for a combined face value of $1.7 million taken out in late 2006 on that mansion in Manchester-by-the-Sea. The property is worth just under $2 million, so Severin isn't exactly a real estate mogul - just an overextended idiot to peddles verbal vomit for money.

After being suspended for a month by WTKK for his anti-Mexican hate speech, he was probably begging them on his knees to let him back on the air.

  • It's show biz folks, There is simply no one on the airways this brilliant. Yes, he is juvenile in his references to women. No doubt he exagerates the notches on his gun. He does ,afterall, by his own admission, have a face made for radio. Agree, don't agree with his politics but recognize a man in love with politics, informed about politics and now stifled by politics. Can anyone imagine his claims about many Ivy league interns sleeping with him are true, About using prostitutes ,sure, but intelligent women of any age and ambition? More than one or two would be incredible.
