Rush Limbaugh Golf Digest Interview, President Bush

SHIFTING WINDS

What A Golf Magazine Interview Reveals About Politics

What can we learn about politics from a golf magazine? Quite a lot, it turns out.

From an interview with Rush Limbaugh in the latest issue of Golf Digest, the reader simply can't ignore what one of his answers says about rapid changes in America's political landscape.

Take a look:

GOLF DIGEST: What's the name of the course in Kennebunkport, Maine, where George H.W. Bush, father of the president, plays golf during the summer? (A: Cape Arundel Golf Club.)

RUSH LIMBAUGH: Illegal Immigrant National? [Laughs. Told Cape Arundel.] Oh, yes. I played there with President Bush, as I'm a trustee of The First Tee and he's honorary chairman. My primary course is the Everglades in Palm Beach. I also play at Seminole, Pine Tree, The Floridian and The Dye Preserve. I play two or three times a week. I'm a 14.7.

Think about this: a year ago, could one even imagine Rush Limbaugh making a crack about the Bush family in a golf publication, much less any other public setting?

That's not to say he's always agreed with the current president or his father, but "Illegal Immigrant National" speaks volumes about just how much has changed since then.

How did Bush and so many Republican members of Congress become this out of touch with America? It isn't Rush that has changed, his values have remained steady and constant.

The GOP, however, has lost its way on many issues and that is clearly reflected in Limbaugh's quip.

Just a year ago, who could've guessed the situation would deteriorate to this point?

  • you are very correct on two points, c&p-loney.

first, it _is_ very unusual for Rush to take a principled stance of his own - however, that still might not be the case. he's not necessarily standing up for what is right, just what keeps him popular.

secondly, it is even more rare for him to offer actual non-partisan humor in an interview.

other than that, he's still a lying, disingenous partisan hack who's only real goal is filling his own coffers, not anything whatsoever to do with the betterment of this country.

you, unfortunately, want so much to be a part of that money machine you're all too willing to kiss his ass.

  • I don't know what took him so long. In 11/04 I posted entries at FreeRepublic and Redstate suggesting voting for Kerry, largely due to immigration but also due to things like having people kicked out of campaign stops for wearing t-shirts with "bad" messages on them. Both of those Bush moves are things that the GOP should leave to the Dems, instead of engaging in them themselves. Of course, posting things like that eventually got me kicked off Redstate.

P.S. Perhaps this site should monitor the AAR Wikipedia entry, since last time I looked it had been deleted from that entry.

Rush is not the only person to profit from his broadcast. There are a huge number of top-paying advertisers who line up to get a shot at exposing their products to the 20 million affluent listeners of Rush.

And I should also add, there is a surprising number of media sources including the liberal ones) that also utilize his comments for their own purposes.

Seems to me that the EIB is doing a lot for the betterment of this country.

If I happen to be flipping past Rush in the afternoon, the only commercials I hear are for herbal impotence meds and questionable financial schemes...

Are THESE the commodities you believe corporate America will rebuild the nation on?

  • EIB

the imaginary broadcasting network? you think there is a real EIB?

    jeez

Affluent? If wealthy people listen to Rush, it only means one thing, brains are not required to become rich, inheritance is

I personally await the day that we learn Limbaugh died of a heart attack on the golf corse, while snorting broken up oxycotin

Since you only flip past Rush, and looking at your observations, your comments are highly questionable and undoubtably biased.

Rush has local advertisers that are heard in specific markets. Perhaps your marketplace sees a strong demand for impotence medication.

But the advertisers I was referring to are high-end companies such as Cadillac, Allen Brothers (quality steaks), The Weekly Standard, plus the local advertisers such as BMW, 401K retirement specialists, and even a vision care center.

Yes, I do think these are commodities that will serve Americans well.

You would have comment on why the impotence medication is being run in your neighborhood!

    Hmmm!
the A..holes of American Retards network. Do you think there is a real AAR?
    jeez

Want to run a comparison of listeners to see who is right?

By Blogger The Benson Report, at 13 July, 2007 10:49

  • AAR exists as a company idiot. EIB is an imiganary network which does not exist outside of rush's drug addled brain.

Limbaugh is part of premire radio networks, not "EIB", just a moniker for his sheep

  • The Weekly Standard

high end? Weekly standard is a cultist rag for radical anti-American extremists. They are a neo-cnservative Anti-american think tank, disguised as a magazine. This is their war, the think tanks war, all of these freaks are Anti-American traitors.

William Kristol, should be tossed out of America and exhiled. this is HIS war..

when the revolution comes I recommend firebombing all radical right wing think tanks, for they are destroying this country.

Every soldier that died in Iraq died for a radical Anti-american neo-con experiment.

These weekly standard folks, need to be all deported, they are indeed the enemy within.

    have a good weekend traitor

    EXPERIMENT?
    This is reality!

If the the Jihadis win, they will control the Middle East, the OPEC oil, and the US, European, and Asian economies.

The techno-industrial economies will be at the mercy of OPEC -- not an OPEC dominated by the educated, rational Saudis of today, but an OPEC dominated by the Jihadis.

Do you want gas in your car? Do you want heating oil next winter? Do you want the dollar to be worth anything? You had better hope the Jihad, the Muslim Inquisition, loses, and the Islamic Reformation wins.

This is not a 60-Minutes TV show, or a 2-hour movie in which everything comes out okay. The real world is not like that. It is messy, uncertain, and sometimes bloody and ugly. It always has been, and probably always will be.

The bottom line is that we will have to deal with Islamic terrorism until we defeat it, whenever that is. It will not go away if we ignore it.

Those who are willing to be the most ruthless always win. The pacifists always lose, because the anti-pacifists kill them.

If you oppose this war, I hope you like the idea that your children, or grandchildren, may live in an Islamic America under the Mullahs and the Sharia, an America that resembles Iran today.

It's difficult to understand why the average American does not grasp this. They favor human rights, civil rights, liberty and freedom, but evidently not for Iraqis.

"Peace Activists" always seem to demonstrate here in America where it's safe.

Why don't we see Peace Activists demonstrating in Iran, Syria, Iraq, Sudan, North Korea, in the places that really need peace activism the most? I'll tell you why! They would be killed!

The liberal mentality is supposed to favor human rights, civil rights, democracy, multiculturalism, diversity, etc., but if the Jihad wins, wherever the Jihad wins, it is the end of civil rights, human rights, democracy, multiculturalism, diversity, etc.

Americans who oppose the liberation of Iraq are coming down on the side of their own worst enemy!

  • "You had better hope the Jihad, the Muslim Inquisition, loses, and the Islamic Reformation wins."

    (giggle)

"Do you want gas in your car? Do you want heating oil next winter?"

If our own leaders won't take care of their own responsibilities, Hugo can pick up the slack.

"The bottom line is that we will have to deal with Islamic terrorism until we defeat it, whenever that is. It will not go away if we ignore it."

    What Islamic terrorism?

I'm more concerned about the terrorists in our (your) own government.

Besides, as I said on 9/11, blocks from the explosions...I'm not the least bit worried. Those planes are not meant for me.

"If you oppose this war, I hope you like the idea that your children, or grandchildren, may live in an Islamic America under the Mullahs and the Sharia, an America that resembles Iran today."

Yawn. Iran isn't doing anything to hurt anybody, and anyone with a lick of sense realizes this.

Stop killing Americans in order to line your own pockets and promote your own interests. Stop committing genocide for the benefit of other entities, and look out for Americans for once!

"It's difficult to understand why the average American does not grasp this. They favor human rights, civil rights, liberty and freedom, but evidently not for Iraqis."

Don't even try it, you worthless POS. Iraq had a tribal system of government that worked for them, and you saw an opportunity to play PNAC booster and do a 30-year oil grab of Iraqi oil. That's why an American embassy complex is being erected in Baghdad that is the size of the Vatican, and, if current projections manifest themselves, the number of innocent Iraqis killed so that you could enrich yourself will total one million by Labor Day.

""Peace Activists" always seem to demonstrate here in America where it's safe."

We are well aware of your efforts to stifle expression of dissent and silence free speech, thank you.

"Why don't we see Peace Activists demonstrating in Iran, Syria, Iraq, Sudan, North Korea, in the places that really need peace activism the most? I'll tell you why! They would be killed!"

Thank you for giving us a taste of that which you have in store for us. Newsflash...we're already aware of your hopes and dreams for us.

"The liberal mentality is supposed to favor human rights, civil rights, democracy, multiculturalism, diversity, etc., but if the Jihad wins, wherever the Jihad wins, it is the end of civil rights, human rights, democracy, multiculturalism, diversity, etc."

Yeah, use "liberals" and "the Jihad" as your latest excuses for your own failed ideologies...

"Americans who oppose the liberation of Iraq are coming down on the side of their own worst enemy!"

We've seen "friends" and "allies" like you for what you are, and we'll take our chances with the bogeyman.
