Anna Nicole Smith Dies

After Anna Nicole Smith's Death, Much To Discuss







Regardless of how you might have felt about Anna Nicole Smith, her unexpected passing today at 39 brings a number of huge issues to talk radio's table.

After all, since our celebrity- obsessed culture created Anna, did we have a role in cutting short her life? Or, did she bring these problems entirely upon herself?

How did she die? Is this new claim true? Or this? Is there a connection between this and her son's recent passing? Who will raise her infant daughter?

Could anyone have helped Smith through her nearly- constant personal crises?

Already, talk stations have broken away from regular programming in the 4pm hour to carry a live press conference, but authorities offered very little in the way of information. Reactions from those who knew her are found here.


As with any late- breaking news story of this nature, however, talk radio has been undermined by programming decisions that dump tape- delayed syndicated shows into the evening hours. That puts stations in the horrible position of running stale programs tonight that won't be talking about Anna.

Others are saddled with sports programming, which is also a bad idea tonight.

(CNN) -- Reality TV star and former model Anna Nicole Smith was pronounced dead Thursday after being taken to a Florida hospital, a law enforcement source told CNN.

Smith, 39, collapsed at a south Florida hotel, according to news reports.

"I can confirm that she is deceased. It's as shocking to me as to you guys," Smith's attorney, Ronald Rale, told Reuters. "I don't know anything further. [Her lawyer and husband] Howard [K. Stern], obviously, is speechless and grieving."

Smith's nurse called Seminole Hard Rock Hotel workers at 1:38 p.m. and security went to the room, hotel officials said. Fire rescue workers from both the Seminole Indian tribe and from Hollywood Fire-Rescue arrived minutes later and Smith was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood at 2:10 p.m.

Smith was involved in a paternity suit regarding the parentage of her daughter, Danielynn, as well as other disputes, including some regarding a house she stayed at in the Bahamas around the time she gave birth.

Earlier this week, Smith was included in a class-action lawsuit against a company, TrimSpa, for which she had worked as a spokesperson. TrimSpa makes a product it claims leads to substantial weight loss. The lawsuit alleges the marketing of the product, TrimSpa X32, was false or misleading.

Smith's son, Daniel Wayne Smith, died at age 20 just days after the birth of Smith's daughter. Pathologist Cyril Wecht said a lethal dose of methadone and antidepressants caused cardiac dysrhythmia, leading to his death.


Anna Nicole Smith wasn't a world leader, she didn't cure cancer and her overall contributions to society are questionable at best. But her life fascinated many Americans and as a result, her death is upsetting to many, no matter how one might have felt about her.

  • Has anyone been able to confirm that Anna Nicole was actually in a methadone program herself for an addiction to heroin? I remember that I read something when she had announced she was pregnant, that she was undergoing treatment for substance abuse and had used the name Vicky Hogan. When her son died it was discovered he had methadone in his blood system and I am curious if this will be the same with Anna. While everyone is already throwing stones about her life, at her as they did when she was alive, I find it amazing that they do not know some of the good that she has done. She was not only outspoken about animal rights but she actually cared about abused children and women in abusive relationships. Maybe she became famous for being infamous, however, there was more to her than reality tv ever showed, after all it is about sensationalism and she gave what she thought the public wanted. As a woman, I must say that often when we want to conceal a paternity there might be reasons involved that the "public" does not know about and who ever the father is I hope he learns to install in the little girl that her mother may have made mistakes but that she loved her and there were good things about her as well.

    The difference, the C-20 seats about 30 passengers. The C-32 can seat over 170 depending on configuration. Now which is more prestigeous to schmooze donors with?

    You were proven wrong with the C-32 passanger load, no admittance of error or hackery on your half, it still is not clear whether the Jet was chosen by her or the Secret Service, so why do you continue to harp on it instead of admitting the radical GOP (who instead of creating sensible policy is busy creating stupid controversy), fed you a pile of crap and you bought it. There is no controversy, Pulosi acted on advice. The plane is not as big as you claimed it was. We are talking 170 vs 45, huge difference. You are still humiliating yourself.

    After beung 150% debunked you proceed to type

    1.This attack started with the RNC talking point
    "pulosi used tax payer money for a Jet"

    2. People with 1/2 a brain responded "so did Hasart"

    3. The radical right shifted the attack into the size of the Jet and that she wanted to fly friends and campaign people around.

    4. This was than debunked after we learned former secret service advised Pulosi to use a larger Jet for non-stop flight purposes. No evidence backed the radical rights claim that she was using it for political purposes.

    5. Right wing radicals proceeded to attack the fact that the c-32 was chosen, by lying about the passanger load of the Jet

    6. This was debunked by going to the Air force website, the c-32 does not hold that many passangers


    In the end the radical right was destroyed with facts but still this deflection of attention away from the Douglas Feit evidence of false pre-war intelligence was overshadowed in the disgusting main stream media by this fake GOP.com created non-news story

    In the end GOP members and supporters once more take party over country, and shrug off pre-war LIES for a partison game.

  • MoPoop, you are Herr Goebbles successor! The point is not only the AF Plane being used by purely partisan political purposes, but the size of Pelosi's deligation! This isn't just protecting Pelosi (whose name you can't spell, moron), this is using taxpayer funds for partisan political purposes. You defend that to the extreme when it is a left winger but scream bloody murder when Bush even attends a fundraiser. You are a hyper hypocrite.
